meditating for comfort eating

Hey all, hope everyone is well.
Eating raw is a wonderful thing, but it does open some doors to things that you have been trying to hide for a while - connecting to yourself can be tricky sometimes.
Over the last few days I haven't been eating as I would like, really. And I have noticed how much of an emotional eater I am. It's a pain in the butt, because I know why I'm eating - I almost say it out loud sometimes "Ooh I am feeling sad, Im going to eat something." Its almost funny!

but not really, i know i need to take a moment (or many many moments) to relax and calm down and try and find some solutions that reside inside of me.

Has anyone got any advice or experience on meditating, or visualization ? This is what i feel I need to do in order to calm my erratic eating habits.
Any help, info or tips would be greatly apprectiated.

Take care
Azura Skye

I feel your pain... I know it's not a help to commiserate but I do.

I find that stream of consciousness writing helps. That would be considered a form of meditation and you are discovering your inner feelings as you go. If you’re sad, find out why your sad...uncover the hidden pain and feel it. That's the only way to really release pain for good. If you're eating food for comfort you are trying to fill yourself up from emptiness inside. Where does this emptiness come from? We all have it, don't we? But we all choose differently how we deal with it. Meditation, writing, or exercising…any way of checking in with yourself is vital for happiness. Good luck with this!

Opinion:

-The highest form of medidation is acceptance & presence (being highly observant and feeling). They say (or I say) that moving toward your fears is the best advice you can give anyone.

-Practice meditating by moving toward your feelings....and by practicing not feeling bad about feeling bad. The evil that finds love and acceptance in your own soul - will leave the world.

Tell yourself can eat whenever but do something positive (like 10 push-ups) before you do. smiling smiley

thank you all for the kind words and advice.
I feel that exercise can really help - something I haven't done for 3 days now (!) and I think what I am feeling is partly due to the fact that I haven't been connecting with myself physically. I think I shall do some of my favourite pilates this morning. a good time to think as well.

And I am really going to try and feel my fears, its amazing how much I ignore, Im sure many people do - but slowly but surely I hope to feel more.

Thank you again everyone, I hope I'll become a calmer person as well as a calmer eater. x

two tips from a long time meditator
1.
doing Yoga is a meditation in motion
when U keep U'r awareness on U'r body, & what it's doing
during each posture/stretch
IT IS AMMMMMMMAZING HOW DIFFERENT U FEEL AFTER U'VE DONE A SESSION..EVEN A SHORT ONE
2.
check out the "Course in Miracles" book
it changed my life (at 47!)
it took away the pain
it reprogramed my head
it did away with the old / negative programing
of course, like any book, it is not for everybody....
but, it just might be for U, or not,
it's not an easy read, but worth it, a little at a time will do
BLESSINGS & LOVE,

Like Basia I recommend Yoga. My favorite book is:

The Yoga System of Health and Relief From Tension by Yoga Vithaldas

You can get a used copy cheap on Amazon.

i like the suggestions above too
awesome people aboard here smiling smiley

the stream of consciousness writing is really interesting for me
i dig it

i think physical exercise also helps to release the emotions

umm.. what else..

hmmmm... well, best of all

i like what david mazonnn said about

just accepting your feelings and moving towards instead of away from them

i mean, sure that can get really intense
no doubt
but its really transforming to just sit with that feeling and feel it all the way

just accepting that you are feeling a certain way
instead of trying to distract oneself form it

that's like a really incredible thing

i like the accepting how one feels no matter what that feeling is

it is a lot less energy consuming to simply accept
instead of trying to cover it up ( personally speaking)

anyways azura skye

good luck with that
let us know how your journey is progressing
