Blending Coconut Meat/Water & Nuts
Posted by: Utopian Life ()

I have a problem where when I blend coconut meat and water, it still has some separation of white stuff that floats on top.

I also have to strain and strain when I make nutmilks, even if the nuts are soaked. I hate to do it because I don't want to waste cheesecloth.

Is this because I should have a vita-mix or something? Anyone else with this problem?

Nut mylk bags are a much finer mesh than cheesecloth and are reusable. you can find them on-line...maybe even on this site.

If you mean the little bags for making tea, they probably have a tight enough weave, but they're bound to be way too small to be convenient. A good nut milk bag will allow you to pour a quart of milk into the bag to be strained at once. You massage the bag to get all the liquid to run out, leaving just the solid pulp. There are a bunch of good demonstration videos on youtube like this one: [youtube.com] (In this video she uses less water than I do.)

The bag I have will hold about 1 cup of liquid at a time. Where do you put the bags to hold them up while you wait (seems like forever) to drain?

Also, any idea on the coconut meat and water not blending all the way?

I have a powerful 800W blender, it does the job of blending well. Perhaps yours is just not powerful enough?

Yeah, it's not. Crap! I will probably get a vitamix eventually.
