Superfood Smoothies
Posted by: Simple Living ()

I was browsing around YouTube and came across this guy making superfood smoothies. I've never heard of half of these ingredients before and everything was in dried, powder form. [www.youtube.com]

Aren't a lot of the nutrients in the liquids? Can foods/herbs dried down to powder form still contain viable nutrients so as to make this a real "superfood smoothie?"

I use a "greens" drink several days per week.
It has seaweed, probiotics, and wheat grasses, plus alot of other things.
From what I know, most are made without any heat.
From what I have read about these green powders, they are very good to take.

LOL I thought the same thing! I've never heard of half of those ingredients though. It sure didn't sound like a "delicious" drink by any means!

I don't know if those packaged "super foods" are good or not but I do know that I like my food simple, raw, natural, pure, recognizable, and thats the way I eat em. I guess thats a bias. smiling smiley

I personally believe the dried powders would do more good after presoaking, but that does not mean there is no value in it. Dr Christopher has been using dried powders in capsules successfully for healing, but I still believe they would work even better after presoaking.

Yes, fresh is best but you couldn't find or eat (fresh or raw) the things this guy is putting into his smoothies. And I highly doubt I'd want to! Maybe as a smoothie with fruit, though.

How do you presoak a powder? Pour just enough water in it to make a paste and let it sit?

Generally you add up to 1 heaped teaspoon to a cup of warm or hot water, whatever you prefer. With warm water you just increase the soaking time.

Yes. Particularly minerals, as far as I understand most minerals are not damaged by cooking.

I use some dried, powdered foods to supplement the fresh food I eat, I particularly like mesquite powder.

I seem to recall Greg Brady mentioning the mesquite powder. That one kind of threw me.

Thank you, Rob. With all the talk on cooked and processed foods being dead, I needed some confirmation that dried herbs and "superfoods" still retain any nutrition. I've been to your site several times and thoroughly enjoy it. Thanks for the information! (Both here and on your site!)

I know the majority of the powders:unha de gato (cat's claw),pau d'arco, hothorne,mesquite powder,spirulina,clorela,...I don't remember the rest but www.garynull.com
has a green stuff powder that has almost everything there or more.
