That has an avacado pit collection.

Seriously, I just can't bring myself to throw them away. I think they're neat.

I collect my peach/plum pits if I'm too lazy to smash them and eat them right after the fruit. I had a nice one going for a while.

Avocado pits are fun... I like longan pits better, because they're shiny. XD

Yaay I'm not wierd. Either that or we're all nuts.

I've had one pit sitting in water a couple of weeks, waiting for it to sprout. Should be soon I hope. The other ones I just have sitting in a decorative kinda bowl.

I like to keep those treasures in my flower beds. I also have lot's of coconut shells. Those are cool. When the kids make mud pies and mud soups they use them.

I hear it takes 9 months for the fruit to mature from the blossom, and avocados are shaped like a uterus. :O

I'd say, in this case, we're more "pits" than "nuts."

Ha! ha! Oh...like I'M not going to be around in 10 years. 10 years is just a story anyway. How about we tell a joyful story about a beautiful avocado tree....and we let time sort itself out. LOL.

Even my SAD mother-in-law when visiting has asked to take the seeds home. She tried to grow an avocado plant, but I don't think it worked. She always takes the seeds when she's here, though. My daughter used to keep them, too. I love holding them. There's definitely something special about them if so many people are drawn to them, right?

Lots of love to all of you,

Not all of them. I'm working on one right now though!

Mine will only be a mini-miracle houseplant. I doubt I will be able to grow avocados in my climate. Wish I could with how much they cost.

I like them too. I don't collect them, but they are pretty...well, pretty! My favorite are lychee pits smiling smiley.

Speaking of pits, how in the world do you eat apricot/plum pits?!!! I've seen them sold in stores, but I never thought they were meant to be eaten as is until phantom mentioned it!

I bought a pair of rubber padded vice-grips as an ideal pit-cracker. I use it on peaches, nectarines, and apricot pits. They all have a seed that looks just like an almond. I haven't tried plum yet.

I did open a mango pit to discover what appeared to be a gigantic lima bean. Does anyone know if that is edible?

i confess to a growing tamarind seed collection. they are like marvelous lumpy marbles, i adore them. sometimes i find one in my pocket from a day i carried it around just to be able to rub it like a worry stone. nice!

I discovered the same thing with mango pits, too.

It's a completely different family of fruits, though, so I have no idea...

You know those steel balls that people use as stress releivers by rolling them around in one hand? (Well I guess that's what they are doing) I think avacodo pits would work well for this too, don't you think so?

Except that after awhile the brown skin kind of falls off and they can get messy. But maybe after that happens. smiling smiley

BTW my avocado pit cracked open about a week ago as if it was about to sprout, and I see a little something in the middle there. But nothing has happened since then.

I have a bunch more pits to try now though!
