As far as nutrition goes you could get a reasonable fascimile with flax + almond, hazelnut, walnut, or macadamia.

For price, this in ascending order at my store:

brazil nut
walnut
almond
hazelnut
macadamia
pine nut
hemp

Flax and sunflower seed are still cheap. Pumpkin seed is cheaper than brazil nut but way more expensive than flax or sunflower.

Peanuts are still cheap, too, but they are legumes rather than nuts and you really should cook them if you are going to eat them.

Did you try sunflower seeds or other seeds/nuts?
