The Ginger Thread

I was just singing the praises of ginger in the juicer thread, so I wanted to start another thread on it.

I'm not 100% raw so I still make ginger tea by boiling the root. However it can still be made drinkable by juicing. I have been putting it in all manner of veggie juices. Obviously it can be used raw by being ground up as well, or just eaten if you're really brave.

The benefits of ginger that I have been able to find:

- Helps nausea and digestive problems, and even GERD (which I find ironic, but true in my experience)

- Helps with Motion sickness

- Helps Menstrual cramps (I told one girl I know about this and she bought a root and just started munching on it! Says it did help.)

- Helps circulation

- Supposedly good for arthritis and is anti-inflammatory

- Stimulates digestion

- relaxes and energizes (in my experience)

- may fight intestinal bacteria and encourage growth of helpful bacteria, and might help reduce the occurence of ulcers

I got most of this from a bunch of websites, but my experience has confirmed some of it. I just love the stuff. I'm into straight juiced ginger now when I'm not putting it in my juices.

I think you could probably make a yummy ginger drink with water, juiced ginger, agave nectar and probably some lemon (or lime?) I haven't tried it yet. Do this in carbonated water and you get raw ginger ale or ginger beer!

You are such a salesperson. tongue sticking out smiley

I've never had ginger juice, but the local juice bar has it--I think I'm going to try some!

I do love the taste of ginger, too. You forgot to mention that it was aphrodisiac. <3

Well just be careful, since ginger is supposed to eliminate car sickness. You might dissolve! smiling smiley

Otherwise sounds like a neat idea. I'll have to try it sometime.

I LOOOVE ginger!

We make gingeraide with ginger, lime juice, agave nectar and natural carbonated spring water from a source about an hour and half from where we live (we bring it back home with us in bottles and it can be stored for up to a year if bottled properly).

It's our substitute for soft drink and my son LOVES it.

Ginger is a great pick me up and ginger drinks are a good replacer of coffee.

You can make raw ginger tea by grating up the ginger, putting it into a glass container and leaving it out in the sun. Alternately you can pour warm water over it and let it steep. I add some sweetener and sometimes mint.

Neat. I still have yet to try it. I imagining throwing ginger juice in there would do about the same thing.
