Black Pepper

I heard it's bad. angry smiley

Does anyone know why? Is it worse than any other spice, just in that it interrupts fullness signals and irritates digestion, or does it do something even more toxic?

Thanks!

Can't help you on the specifics but I gave up black pepper when I became raw, too. I heard that it is bad for the health, too.

I did find recently that mustard seed is similar to the flavor of black pepper but with a bit of astringency. Not a bad substitute.

What is so weird is that I have had once or twice an urge to eat black pepper corns. I ate about maybe an ounce worth. I read once that black pepper is cooked, which is how it turns black.

There's a reason for the white spot in the middle of the black half of the tai chi symbol.

Those strike me as a tad alarmist. (As do many of the articles there).

I think most people will be ok with a little black pepper. I was never much into it.

I've never been 'into' black pepper that much but recently I had a salad topped with seeds with black pepper at my boyf. house. I didn't like them very much (very dry, burny, almost unpleasant taste) .

Then a few days ago, whilst round his house again I had a massive craving for more of those seeds, a bit like a Coke or chocolate craving. Weird.

I gave up black pepper about ten years ago, when I read it was a carcinogen. I still use cayenne peppers from time-to-time, however. The longer I'm raw, however, the less I desire the spicy foods.
