need a new (inexpensive) blender

So...this is my 4th blender. I had one I bought for $5 @ a yard sale 12 years ago that was starting to go. It was an old orangeish 1970's Oster. I loved it, but it's time was finally up. I've since busted a new Oster (the bottom part was plastic, not a metal peg like the origina). It only lasted 3x of use!
Then I busted a black & decker. This one was harldy used as well - peice of garbage! Now I am down to one blade on the magic bullet and last night it started smoking...!!!I still works, but it's honestly not the greatest, especially with only the flat blade insert working.
So, my dillema is I don't have a lot of $ to spend, but I'd like something decent for making smoothies and blending nuts and grains into fine powders etc.
Can you buy something that will work well enough for under $100?

I have this great duo blender/chopper from Cuisinart that a friend of mine was kind enough to give me access to at Costco. It's $60 approx. and 500 watts I believe.. not a bad deal. Otherwise, I recommend looking for a used Cuisinart or Kitchenaid blender on Craigslist. Vitamix/Blendtec are really heavy duty (see the "Will it Blend?" guy on YouTube: [www.youtube.com])

But those are expensive and hard to find for sale used.

Hope this helps! Happy Blending.

I second that...I learned the hard way a long time ago, no ice cubes in cheap blenders... I just got a ice shaver when I want something with ice, shave the ice, and voila, no problems...

Bread crumbs is what killed most of them actually.
One of them I ground up crab shells for the garden - but it was fine up till the bread crumbs, honest!
The magic bullet first blade broke while chopping almonds. That was totally my fault.
The black and decker even had an ice mode, so I think it was just a dud all around. I haven't even seen that model anymore so I bet they remade it since it was so crummy.- or crumby in my case winking smiley

I've been through a lot of cheap blenders, too.
I bought the Oster Fusion at WalMart (I was desperate!) because I could not afford a VM or Blendtec. Also was not impressed with performance in side by side comparisons.
Oster Fusion is $59. 600 watt machine that has a food chop setting plus a frozen drink setting. Push the button, walk away...it will stop itself when it is done. The blade in this machine is unique and, I think, makes it superior. I read the reviews on Amazon before purchasing. They are mixed, but I took a chance. I have put mine to the test, but have not had it for long. If you can wait a little longer, Oster is coming out with a 700 watt model soon. That comes close to 1 hp. I love mine so far!

Buy the best, you never need to buy another.

He said he does not have a lot of money to spend. The term "best" is subjective. Please view side by side comparisons on youtube. Especially the one done by Popular Mechanics. You might be surprised.

I remember that video. Here it is. I don't know if
I'd put much Faith in a technician who can't pronounce
'vita-mix' correctly.....WY

Faith or no faith in the technician is irrelevant. It's the results you are ultimately interested in. The results speak for themselves and would be the same regardless of the technician's ability to pronounce a name.

No, that's not true. The technicians inability to
pronounce 'vita-mix' correctly shows she's not at all familiar
with the Vita-Mix blenders, and therefore doesn't know how to
use one. Plus, she called the Tamper a 'Plunger'....further proof
she was inexperienced.....WY

Now this guy is very experienced with Blenders. Here
he is with a comparison-test with the Blendtec and the Vita-Mix.
Less powerful blenders couldn't do this, as he overloaded each one.....WY

The link you provided is a good comparison.....IF you are considering buying either of those. Not everyone can afford that. The OP specifically asked about inexpensive blenders. The comparison I mentioned used a $100 (+/-) 500 watt KitchenAid, which I felt was pretty revealing.

Was the point of the demonstration, though, to prove whether or not the technician had intimate knowledge of each blender, or was it to provide side by side comparison of the particular models used? Was it an "apples to apples" comparison where the exact methods were used for each blender? Maybe it proved that if you don't use a tamper with a Vita-Mix, you may get incomplete results. The Blendtec did not require one either.

The point I'm trying to make is forget inexpensive
blenders, and go with the Vita-Mix if you like manual controls,
or go with the Blentec if you like programmable controls. I
personally favor the Vita-Mix.....WY
P.S. Save your money until you can buy the Best. You'll feel
better about yourself.
