Date: June 30, 2009 05:37AM The bottom of my vita-mix is leaking I tried to unscrew the bottom so I can clean it but I can't get it open any ideas.

Date: June 30, 2009 10:32AM I don't have a vita-mix, but I "assume" the bottom screws off. Try running warm water over it for a few moments, as you would with a stuck jar lid. That should loosen it. Re: Vita-mix

The Blades of a Vita-Mix shouldn't be removed for routine cleaning. I'd contact a local Handyman if I were you. If the plastic canister isn't cracked, I'd say the Blades just need tightening....WY Re: Vita-mix

Date: July 01, 2009 06:35AM The Vita-Mix manual has a section on how to remove the blade. There is basically 2 ways: with a specific wrench for the job or with a screwdriver.

Also, the wrench comes in plastic and also in a heavy aluminum. The aluminum is Best (better leverage). I've had a leaky canister only once....when the blades weren't tightened properly (by me), and the plastic cracked from the high speed, and vibration.....WY Re: Vita-mix

Date: July 03, 2009 04:46AM As an aside: the new Blendtec jars (BPA Free and with their 3 year warranty) have sonically welded drie shafts and won't leak unless the jar wears out. Don't let a bad jar (Vitamix or Blendtec) cause wear to your motor which is the expensive part of your blender/juicer. For other blender/juicers tampering on your own might invalidate your warranty so it always pays to read your manual carefully. Manolie Re: Vita-mix

The only time I've had to remove the blades in my Vita-Mix was when I blended some Celery Ribs and the strings got wrapped under the blades. Date: July 14, 2009 06:07AM That's one thing I don't like about the Blendtec is that the blade assembly can not be separated from the container.
While I've had little reason to remove my Vitamix blade, it sure was great when I upgraded all my old 5000 containers to the newer 5200 BPA free containers without having to buy the blades. Re: Vita-mix

Date: July 18, 2009 05:16AM Ditto for cleaning my Blendtec. 2" to 3" of tap hot water, a drop or two of soap, a pulse or two, rinse and dry. The reason for sonically welding the blades into the BPA free jars is for safety. At 3+ peak horsepower and 28,000 rpm the last thing you would want is to have a problem with a blade coming loose. The double seals insure that cleaning (as above) has you ready for the next blender job. The other blenders have expensive jars, limited warranties, sometimes call for two jars (one for wet and one for dry blending), may not provide BPA-free jars, can require a tamper, etc. If you are a raw fooder getting set to invest good money in a blender, do your homework and avoid those cheap blenders you will be replacing too often, and which may not do the jobs you have in mind even when they are brand new. Date: July 18, 2009 12:37PM I recently had the same problem and vita mix sent one out in a jiffy. Theyhave awesome customer service. The vita mix 5000 (which is the one I have) isnt BPA free but you can upgrade the jar for $35 and they did say that the plastic is a super strong grade and if you never heat the jar up like in soup you are more than fine. I still might upgrade the jar anyway since mine after daily use is looking fairly ugly. I researched both the blendteck and vita mix a lot and hands down the reviews came down to the via mix. They are both great machines and a must have in our kitchen. Get a a Blendtec it won't leak! Re: Vita-mix
