Vita-mix again
Posted by: Mry_PL ()

Hi everyone, quick question.
I live in Melbourne / Australia, and wondering if it`s really worth buying Vita-mix or maybe you know if there is anything cheaper which will do exactly the same job. Maybe you can mention any local brands which I could go and buy in local shops like harvey normann or good guys etc .... Any suggestions please.....
I know that there will be some Vita-mix presentation held in Melbourne in a month time so I would love to make a good decision.
THank you a lot

I'd suggest you buy a Vita-Mix 5200, or Vita-Prep 3
(model 1005). They're expensive, but....."Quality is long
remembered after price has been forgotten"....someone said that....WY

That's a no-brainer.....then get the Vita-Mix 5000.
I owned one for years, and it served me well.
I wasn't aware they still made the 5000, since it was upgraded to
the 5200....WY

Try the Oster Beehive 600 watt blender first...39.99 at Target, and it does almost everything I've seen the vitamix do in the videos. You will be very happy with it and not be out much money. Then you can decide whether or not to upgrade. Had mine for 2 years and it's handled around three big jobs a day, every day, in that time. Replaced my blades once and got an extra carafe for very cheap on ebay.

That's good advice if you like your Smoothies
a little 'chunky'.
That may be better anyway...you have to chew a little....WY

I currently use a Bosch blender, but wondered if the Vitamix was good at making the smoothies completely smooooooth?

I have been on a green smoothie mostly vegetarian diet now for two years, (lost 80 lbs) I walk too. I have struggled with my old blender and a really nice juicer from Braun I think.

Anyway I purchased the Champion juicer which is wonderful, it also has a blank to make a really nice soft serve type ice cream out of frozen bananas (and whatever else frozen suits your fancy) just add in. It juices quick, clean up is easy.

But, I did just recently purchase the Vitamix 5200 and after two years of cutting and chopping and freezing in little baggies and putting ingredients into the blender one at a time til it appeared to be blended, then adding more til done. Whoa the Vitamix is just amazing. I put everything in at once, no lie, and within 1 min. it is DONE and blended to perfection. It does make juice too I think but then maybe you have to strain small bits, I haven't tried that yet. I got a refurbished one right from the website it was a bit cheaper and if you know anyone with one of a few 'specific' older models you can trade that in for a 75.00 rebate. My refurbished looks brand new, may have been used for demos, or in the test kitchen but it is perfect. IT IS SO WORTH THE MONEY!!!!

I love it. Good Luck!

The Oster and the Bosch cannot do what the Vita Mix does. It actually breaks the cell walls in the fruits and veggies you are blending, making the food more bioavailable. I use my Vita Mix 5000 to make blended salads and fruit smoothies and vegetable soups. I am using it recover from serious illness. The other juicers we had and we had three expensive ones did not get me the nutrition I get out of the Vita Mix 5000. It is worth every penny.

WY,

Actually my Oster Beehive does not leave smoothies chunky at all. Very smooth. won't do strawberry seeds, but otherwise no chunks.

Actually, come to think of it, I think it does crack stawberry seeds, hmmmm....I will check and report back on that one, next time I have a strawberry smoothie!

When I get my vitmamix, and a camcorder, I am going to video tape the performance of both.

That should be interesting. I've used Vita-Mix
blenders for so many years, I'm unhappy using any other
brand....and I've tried several.....WY

I'm dreaming of my future which has a vita-mix in it!!! Right now I have a Cuisinart blender and a Magic Bullet blender. Both get the blending done but I do end up with bits and pieces still in my smoothies. I'm looking forward to having smooth-smoothies for Christmas...I've told "Santa"(my hubby) a Vita-mix is all I want!! I've heard many people say they will last your lifetime.

I take my vita-mix everywhere! People think I'm crazy until I give them a taste of my latest concoction! I have had many other types, no comparison. It is an investment. I have a friend who inherited one from his in-laws after they passed away. The gift that keeps on giving!
Cheers

I hope you enjoy yours as much as I do mine. The
most important feature of the Vita-Mix line of blenders is
the manual controls (you're in control), rather than the
programmed cycles of the Blendtec line.
You forgot to tell us what Vita-Mix model you bought.....
5000, 5200, 4500, Vita-Prep, Vita-Prep 3...???.....WY

I've had my Vitamix for 22 years smiling smiley

I've replaced the container & blades once, going from the original stainless container to the 'new' polycarbonate (see-through) container.

Best investment, really.
