I just saw an ad for the Samson 6-in-1 juicer--more confusion
Posted by: banana who ()

This was on a raw foods Web site and it was one of the types they recommend (the Champion's another). It's about $229 and has all these attachments. As I still consume cooked food, the pasta attachment (to make gluten-free noodles), as well as the grinder, etc. would be helpful. Also, the Omega Vert and 8006 are both similar to this machine, which adds to the confusion.

Does anyone have any experience with the Samson, in relation to the Omega machines, and/or Champion? With the latter, I have heard about the juice heating up, which concerns me. I am most concerned with dry pulp, easy assembly/cleaning, durability, and versatility. Thanks in advance!smiling smiley

*I should add that I didn't include Greenstar because of the cost. I would also like to buy a Vitamix and the two purchases is just too much right now! Plus, if I could get a somewhat similar juicer as the Greenstar for half the price, that would be all good! I am not planning to juice greens (probably blend them, rather), so I am more interested in a machine which can effectively juice carrots, beets, celery, etc., rather than parsley and wheat grass.

I've owned, and used all of them for many years each. First it was the Champion....pretty good, but I wanted to do better. Thus began an Odyssee through just about every Juicer made. I mean, after all, juicing is the 'Answer', no matter what the Question.
Of the 3 juicers mentioned, I like the Omega single-auger (8003 or 8006) Best. The Samson 6-in-1 is not as good as the Omegas, and ranks Second. Do yourself a favor, and don't even consider buying a Champion.....WY

Wheatgrass Yogi-

Curious--what is the issue or issues you have with the Champion and why the particular models of the Omegas? It is great to hear specifics! Thanks already for your info!

I owned the Samson 6-in-1 and sold it shortly after purchase. WAY too slow and unable to handle the heavy use. I was constantly afraid I would break something. I LOVED my Greenstar and would highly recommend it to anyone, but I sold mine to get the Omega VRT (which I LOVE) and to save money towards my Vitamix dream (which is finally being shipped to me as we speak!!). I would definitely echo WY's suggestions - Go with the Greenstar or the Omega and you can't go wrong. If you do alot of jucing, it will pay for itself quickly. I can't wait to finally get my long-awaited Vitamix, hopefully by Tuesday!! =)

Plainlydressed: Thank you for the input and congrats on your Vitamix dream! Curious: I had decided that if I had to choose between a Vitamix and juicer, I'd pick the juicer first, since I have a blender (Hamilton Beach, not very powerful, but I could juice stuff and then blend it). What do you think? I am not very raw, but if I could get by with just the Vitamix, at least for now, I'd order it instead of the Omega. What I don't want is to have the Vitamix and not have it be very appropriate for juice (even after straining)!

My personal opinion - If you're not entirely raw or not super "into it" just yet, I would recommend the Vitamix. You can make ANYTHING with the Vitamix - my favorite is daily Green Smoothies - and even try juicing with it, but you are limited with your choices with a Juicer. As much as I love my juicer and highly recommend juicing, I can do MORE with a good quality Blender than just a juicer. Hope that helps. smiling smiley

Both the Sampson 6 in 1 and the Vitamix are great products. I purchased the juicer about 6 months ago and it has surpassed my expectations. The pulp is very dry, it is easy to put together, take apart, and clean. The juice is fantastic. It is the preferred juicer of the Raw Food Specialist who sold it to me. He chooses it above the others that he sells, including the Omega juicers.

My Vitamix is several years old (it has the metal container)...it is a wonderful product--very versatile..i have used it extensively throughout the years and have had no problems with it. In fact, I called to see about replacing it with a newer model and the sales rep said to just keep the one I have as it is a durable and well-made product that will last for many more years.

Plainly Dressed: Just one more question; promise! The allure of the Omega is that it also is a grinder, makes nut butters and sorbets, makes pasta...I would use all these functions. The Vitamix can make nut butters and grind, but it cannot do the pasta, and it's much more expensive. I have made green smoothies in my less powerful blender. I am sure that the Vitamix makes them much smoother, but I could still muddle along until I get the Vitamix.

You can make nut butters, pates, sorbets, and all those things in any "auger" style juicer. The Green Star works well for that one too and I can also make those things with my upright VRT Omega juicer. It's true that the Samson 6-in-1 can make those things too, but I just wasn't happy with the quality of the product and the SLOW TIME it took for everything. The GS worked the best for me with speed, once I got the hang of it. I'm happy now with my Omega VRT.

Plainlydressed: Well, I ended up ordering the Omega 8006...I can't wait to try all the special features! (I had always wanted a Greenstar, but when I heard that it didn't do fruits all that well, along with the price, led me to my choice.)Thanks again for your input!smiling smiley

LOL...

Hey Juicin'John, what would you have recommended? I don't recall you giving me your opinion, which I would have valued! I deliberated about this quite a bit. I even thought of foregoing a juicer altogether because I had heard that a Vitamix would be superior (blending whole fruits and veggies). I plan to get one later this year, but I wanted some drinks that weren't thick and taking a nut mylk bag to strain beets and other messy, dyeing produce was not something I wanted to have to do. It's not that serious. I had heard that the Green Star wasn't too hot on fruit. I don't plan to juice fruit too much due to obvious importance of whole fruit. But you know what a juicer is great for? Juicing RINDS! I had a centrifugal juicer and got much juice simply from pineapple rinds and melon rinds. Cheers!

yes banana who

sounds to me you would have been in perfect hands with the greenstar.

fruit rinds are a "cinch" and the wide spectrum of other juicables to choose from with the greenstar makes it the ideal maching for juicing and grinding.

i get alot of juice from the rinds which i juice. it is true that most of the soft fruits do not juice well in the greenstar unless you take off the pulp pressure knob and save the remnant of pulp that comes through for other recipes such as smoothies of other creative recipe ideas.

i would say overall green star would have been your ideal machine.

I wouldn't worry about it too much, the 8006 is a fine machine, well built for the long haul and was a very close second to my decision to purchase the Vert. It ends up being a trade off of needs vs. desires. For me, I made a choice to juice everyday. Both my wife and I have lost a good deal of weight and feel so much better with extra energy. We go by the 80/20 principle 80% raw foods and juice, 20% other. It seems to work pretty well for us and are now almost 100% organic. So the machine you will use everyday is the best one! Nothing sad about that.

I'm with Juicin' John on this one. Greenstar is the way to go if you are a serious juicer!!

Juicin'John: NOW you tell me! Aargh!!!! Well, I had researched it as thoroughly as I knew how, and the word on the street was that the Greenstar was not so hot when it came to fruits. It's really okay. I am confident in my choice. I know that the Greenstar is the creme de la creme, but I am not as serious a juicer as some and the Omega will be just fine for my particular needs! But thanks for the imput anyway...

How does the upright Omega VRT act as a food processor, plainlydressed? I saw a man using one on Youtube - he is some sort of juicer reviewer - and he tried to make butters but clearly the machine was not designed for that use; part of the seed woud come out dry & floury thru the juice spout, and the nice oily part stayed stuck inside the machine and had to be scraped out. This is unlike the original single-auger types, which have a plastic cone-shaped grinder that you use in place of the metal juice extracting cone.

Here is what I found on the internet:

"The Omega Vert VRT330 Juicer is the ultimate juicer and was specifically designed as a juicer unlike Omega's Nutrition Centers. Whether your juicing hard vegetables or leafy greens this juicer handles both with ease. The vertical design of the Omega Vert VRT330 Juicer means it has a smaller footprint than a juicer with a horizontal auger. The Omega Vert VRT330 Juicer is the only juicer you will ever need."

So how did you make this machine work for you? Or am I misunderstanding all this? Thanks & sorry for any trouble.
