I have been looking for a decent juicer for a quite a while and i think
the Omega 8004/8006 is my best bet, however my first concern is
about some reports (amazon reviews) that the GE Ultem Auger sometimes grinds
against the metal mesh screen.. which in turn can taint the juice with plastic shavings and dust, dangerous petrochemicals, which is not really high up on my healthy nutrition list.

One reviewer on another site states:

"My auger doesn't in any way touch the metal so this is certainly not a problem
that is consistent with this juicer."

Any Omega 8004/8006 owners care to comment on this issue?


I'm hoping that i can get the seller to assemble and test my unit for this particular defect before shipping, if not i will just have to cross my fingers and hope for a good unit.. i see no other viable solution at the moment as i have not seen another juicer with a better track record in terms of user reviews.


My second concern is that even without the manufacturing problem, that plastic is going to wear away over time and go into my juice.

The Omega Vert330 uses the same GE Ultem Auger and one reviewer on amazon stated:

"Spoke to customer service and they stated that it's probably the screen housing or a (ugh) shaved auger. I thought the auger was near steel strong."

Are there any long time Omega 8004/8006 owners who can comment on the durability of the auger?


Also how well does this juicer juice wheatgrass? I understand this juicer is best suited for leafy greens,but how well does it perform on fresh produce such as vegetables and fruits in terms of juice yield?


Which juicing or raw diet book do you recommend for a newbie?
Though maybe i should check the appropriate forum or thread for this question.

im not a long time, but I can state that Ive not noticed so much as even a tiny scratch on my auger and ive been using it for soooooo much...except for the last week, its been REALLY put to work, including grinding coffee for friends, delicious nut butters, almond, peanut, and walnut...which btw is kinda amazing with some 90%cacao chocolate mixed in with it, then spread liberally over a flax cracker... if the auger DID get ground up, uh, 15 year warranty?...?

Most fruits you are really better off eating or making smoothies out of rather than juicing, veggies it seems pretty awesome with, I had a pound of these really juicy carrots the other day I got at the farmers market, got a full quart of juice out of it, about twice the juice I got out of the last batch of carrots purchased at the store... and it did great with wheat grass for me, although I have nothing to compare that too, but a heck of allot more juice came out of that grass than I ever expected... Hope this was helpful...

Mr. Novice....Mr. First Post....I know who you are. However,
I won't expose you here in case I might be wrong......WY
P.S. In response to your main concern....the GE Ultem Auger and the juicing
screen do touch at first. Juicers are not precision machines. With use, it
becomes a nice fit. I don't worry about anything getting into my juice.
Wheatgrass and other Greens juice very well in the Omega 8004/8006.

fyi:

omwga does not manufacture their own machines. they use contract manufacturing companies who make their products and they are basically a marketing company.

novice ...wheat grass yogi is notoriously supicious of any one who does not subscribe to his issues so don't pay any attention to his curt remarks. if you really want a good juicer get a greenstar far better than the omega line.

JJ.....The Best Juicer has yet to be made. I've started
juicing everyday, and my Omega 8004 is serving me very well.
If I remember right, you juice once and store the juice for several
days.

I have had the 8006 since January. I don't juice every day but I have done it many times. So far, no contact with auger at all. No scratches on it, etc. It does very well with fruit. I notice how it almost seems geared towards juicing greens, but that doesn't mean that it doesn't work for fruits. The yield would be indicated by the state of the pulp. Mine has always been bone-dry, so that tells me all I need to know...

He hasn't had free time to post since the green star is such an incredibly slow & tedious machine requiring a lot of "fiddling" to get it to work correctly. (lol)

WY - The two best juicers are the Omega Vert & the Norwalk, didn't ya know?!?

Isn't it great we all don't think alike? If we did,

I'm just looking into this "Super Angel" juicer for $1000. It's all stainless steel, twin gear design. Claim is high yield, comparable performance to a Norwalk (I don't believe it) with low froth. 5 year warranty though. Omega offers a much better warranty.

hope you got the right enzymes to digest all the plastic in your body. what the heck its covered by that 15 year warranty. you can always take out a good health insurance policy ...just in case the plastic you ate over that 15 years causes problems.

The juicing screen in the Omega line of single-auger
juicers (8002, 8003, 8004, 8005, 8006) is made of mostly
plastic, but it's stainless steel in the 'crushing area'. I'm
not worried about any plastic getting into my juice.

yofi ...you have go the wrong machine with metal in the juice.

angel is the company whose juicer actually sscraped metal powder....green star design was in response to this problem. the original name for the greenstar gears were call "clean gears" until tribest changed the name to twin gears. the greenstar has a .004 in. clearance between gears so that they never touch.

plastic in the juice is not good. its evan better that you are not worried about it since it would poison hyou evan more if you were to think about it.

JJ....That new Greenstar Elite you own must make for a pleasant

Novice - the augur is made from food-grade materials that are FDA approved. It doesn't contain petrochemicals. This sounds like a competitor to this product trying to cause mischief. The omega 8004 juicer is a fantastic machine and one of the bet on the market.

I once had a champion juicer and the metal teeth wore down quite a lot with use. This obviously meant I was having metal with my juice. Not good at all.

I have the 8006 and although the auger is encased in plastic and supposedly has had problems with little pieces coming off, I have never seen evidence of anything of the sort. I believe that is because I am very consciousness of whether I have correctly snapped the auger in place. Whenever you have machines with removeable parts, you have to be careful that you don't turn them on when the moving parts may not be fastening correctly! That applies to a blender, as well.

Turns out there isn't really a better juicer than my omega, think I'll keep it even though it complains when I put mature coconut through it.

guess I missed something in the posts...which Omega do you have? BTW, if you cut the coconut into smaller pieces & feed them through at a slower rate it may not complain as much...but I guess you already know that!

I find that my Omega vert will give a less pulpy juice if I feed it slow & let all the pulp eject before adding more.

It's so old, my juicer. I got it second hand too. Let me look in the cupboard... It's so old it doesn't even have a number on it, it's just called omega fruit and vegetable juicer. If I need to buy another one I'll get one of those 8000 ones though. Not sure which, have to check those over more carefully if and when the time comes.

What about just using your VM? (Sorry to ressurect this old thread; I was looking for something and caught this post...)

I did try coconut in the vitamix, you have to add water though and then it turns into an oily frothy disgusting mess. I threw it out, and it was hard to clean the blender afterwards too. Putting it through the omega results in a thick, creamy liquid that is out of this world. It's very rich so you can't eat much at once but it's so tasty good!

I agree with coco on that, its amazing in my omega... I have been buying coconuts lately as the brown ones have dropped to $1 each here, and eating them as an occasional treat...quite yummy in smoothies too.

Coco, do you use brown coconuts also? Curator, I just saw this video by the Omega guy (John?) and he used both brown and young coconuts and it's like coco butter...It's like that stuff by Artisan Co. with the oil mixed with coco flesh.

Brown coco only for me.

yeah nanners! ive used it in so many things, its so tasty, I love coconut, but I can only afford it occasionally (till this recent price drop) considering how little actual food im getting for the money,lol... but at 99 cents each, its definitely worth it...mmmmm ive done some raw, and ive done some toasted, I like both a lot flavor wise, but try to do the raw more often since its supposed to be healthier and all.

haha, wow, I love that you posted that paul, ive been thinking about it since coconuts have been brought up.

And nanners, I use a ball peen hammer or a normal one and a screw driver, on cement, set the coconut on the cement, first thing i do is place coconut on cement, eyes up, set screw driver against an eye, gently tap it with hammer to penetrate the eye, then do it to another eye, be careful, do NOT whack it hard the first time, the trick is to use JUST enough pressure to go through the eye, start out light, then work your way up... once two eyes have hols in them, drain the water out into a cup, then place coconut back on ground (dont hold it btw) and gently whack it between the eyes with the hammer, increasing the power of your whack till it cracks it, after that I like to pry the shell open and the meet away with my hands and a flat head screwdriver... once I got it down it only took me a couple minutes per coconut... BE CAREFUL... I dont want no mashed nanners...

LOL @ mashed nanners! I don't know...I don't even have a hammer. Besides, I'm afraid I'll whack my hand instead of the screw driver!

thats why you start out gently, dont just start whacking away at it, lightly tap it... another option is a power drill (i dont like cause it gets shavings in the water sometimes, but is easier) and a saw... drawn water, hack in half with saw... but harder to get out of the shell.
