Interesting: Modified refurb Norwalks for sale & Ultrasonic Washer
Posted by: adamlogan ()

Found this while doing a search of all the Craigslist on the west coast.
[sandiego.craigslist.org]

Followed the link to the video of an older refurb Norwalk 270s for sale
[www.youtube.com]

Looked around on the website out of curiosity.
[wholehealthfound.com]

Apparently there is another "new" modified refurbished Norwalk 275 for sale too.
[www.youtube.com]

I like the addition of higher legs allowing the use of jars instead of the cloth bags and a digital thermometer seems appropriate given the Norwalk heating issue. But on the other hand you're not buying from Norwalk and thus passing up the warrantee.

Off topic somewhat, but looking around the site some more I came across another product they sell, a Samson Ultrasonic Fruit & Vegetable Washer. It's weird, I have mixed feelings about it, like it's essential but on the other hand I am wondering if it really is that crucial/ effective as it claims. It bothers me that I cannot really find other brands or comparable products (for produce that is).
[www.youtube.com]

At first a google search for the product didn't show up with the manufacturer's home page I only saw results from resellers (explains my unease), but going to samson's website [sundanceind.com] was able to find it easily.

What do you gents and ladies think?

Picture me shaking my head and wringing my hands. I've
been there, done that.
It is foolish to squeeze your juice through a nylon bag. Think about
what you're about to do. There is a 'taste' that is imparted into the
juice.
I remember years ago when I was at the point
you are now. An old guy named Zeno tried to warn me about buying a
Norwalk. I didn't listen, and bought one anyway. It was one of the
worst mistakes I've ever made......WY
P.S. History must repeat itself through others.

An online friend has a washer like that and swears by it. Me, not so much. I clean produce in either 50/50 vinegar and water (soak 15 mins followed by a wash or soak in pure water for 15 mins) or a few drops of mms (not msm, a water purification product that cleans and kills off ickies. Same soak routine as the vinegar). It's MUCH more economical, portable etc.

@ Wheatgrass yogi
Are all nutmilk/juicing bags nylon? From what I have seen online it does seem like the Norwalk is fussy, loud, and exorbitantly expensive. But it still strikes me as being the best design — triturating then pressing… How was the purchase of the Norwalk a mistake from your perspective? How long did you give yourself to get familiar with it?

If you were in my shoes and am intending to buy only one juicer, you would get the Omega 8004 is that right?

@coco
Thanks, I'll give your approach a try. I take it MMS stands for Miracle Mineral Solution/Supplement?

Yes. My friends take it internally, bathe in it, give it to their cats etc but I am not so brave. I might gargle with it this week as the germ factories (children) I live with have brought home some mild virus that's making me hoarse but that's as far as I'll go smiling smiley.

Gabriel Cousins used to wash produce in food grade iodine dilution when travelling. Not sure if he still advocates this but there might be info in the book Conscious Eating.

My apologies to all for coming on so strong about
the Norwalk Press Juicer and Triturator. I should have simply
said it didn't work for me, rather than overreacting to a bad
memory.
From what I've read, JuicerKatz loves his Norwalk, and uses
it 3 times a week.....WY

I think that the hole drilled in the side of the Norwalk & the thermometer is a dumb idea & not necessary...I would not go for that.

And...the Norwalk is the best juicer...or is it the greenstar...oh wait...is it the Omega 8006? I don't know... Maybe buy one of each & rotate their use...

@WY
I kinda figured, but it still counts that the Norwalk was "not for" quite a few people.

@JuicerKatz
Lol, 3 different juicers, 3 steep learning curves! And talk about burning a hole in the wallet grins.

I will have to think these things over, meanwhile become more familiar with the Vitamix.
