Date: September 15, 2006 06:09PM I want to be able to blend fruits, veggies, greens, nuts/seeds...just about everything. Do I really need a 2 or 3hp blender for this?
Thanks - Kim Re: Will a 1HP Blender do the job?

Date: September 18, 2006 08:34PM I have a Vita-Mix 5000 (2 hp) that hasn't been enough power for me at times. However, I have a friend who makes Blended Salads in a 1 hp model and does very well with it. It all depends on how hard you 'push' it......Wheatgrass Yogi Re: Will a 1HP Blender do the job?

Date: September 23, 2006 02:21AM "Horsepower" is an interesting word. I think 746 watts equals one horsepower?
Anyway, when you blend salads, how much water do you add, and what are your favorite palatable recipies? I'd like to give this a try with my 800 watt 30 year old Oster. Thanks, Jeff Re: Will a 1HP Blender do the job?

Date: September 23, 2006 01:30PM Jeff.....Your old Oster should work very well. There has been some discussion that 2+ HP blenders break down the cell walls (a good thing) of vegetables, whereas the smaller blenders won't. My friend doesn't use any water at all in her blended salads. The tomatoes, celery, cucumber, etc. provide all the liquid that is needed.......WY Re: Will a 1HP Blender do the job?

Date: September 23, 2006 02:37PM cool. i like my old blender. it's a chrome "cyclomatic" and "frappe" is the strongest setting. I guess "frappe" is old school for "smoothie." it is less than 2HP - it's 800 watts....anyway i'll try adding a bit of apple cider vinegar into my salad drink for character and punch.
