Homogenizing
Posted by: jakeym91 ()

I am in the process of buying a juicer (I am a bit zeroing in on the Omega juicer) and in the reviews it always states that the juicer also homogenizes and i was wondering if this is the same homogenizing than in milk products (where i heard its really bad for you)? Is then all juice homogenized that comes through a mascating juicer?

Thank you for your answers

LOL...I have no idea what they mean. I have the Omega and it's a good one for the money. I recommend it. Milk being homogenized is different because they are processing the fat to get it to mix in with the milk. The juicer doesn't do anything but extract juice. And it sometimes is a bit separate so you just stir it. But it is low-speed and low temp so it keeps the nutrients intact.

The homogenizer insert is like the juicer insert only it doesn't have any holes in it so it renders the fruit and veggies into a juicy pulp just like a meat grinder works to grind meat. I have a single auger juicer that I don't use for juicing but just for homogenizing root and leafy vegetables to be pressed in my Peoples Press.

I also use the homogenizer to grind up veggies to mix with the old dogs food as they are too old to chew whole veggies up anymore. You will find many uses of your own for it. It's a really nice feature.

I learned how to juice this way from John Kohler at Discount Juicers. From his video I'm linking you can see that when you use a single auger juicer with the homogenizer it goes much more quickly than when you use it in juicer mode. It, together with the press, are a lot easier and faster to clean than using the juicer to juice alone!

Using these two pieces of equipment together to juice has saved me hundreds of dollars over the years in expensive organic produce. This juicing method is truly outstanding, also, for juicing expensive leafy greens.

It's amazing how much more juice I get from this method than from my Breville Juice Fountain which is fast but extremely wasteful. I also noticed that the Brevilles blades wear down after about a month of use.
