Pomegranates

I was wondering if anyone knew the best method for getting a pomegranate to give up its juice. . .

Deeds gave me some wonderful advice - chew thoroughly. And granted, its smart advice and works nicely solo but preparing it for my guests in that way would probably not go over well with them.

I have read that freezing the seeds makes them give up their juice readily. I suppose a person would then just press them through a strainer. Any other thoughts?

I never tried this, but maybe try jucing them in a citrus juicer like a lemon juicer or orange juicer. Not a regular juicer, but a citrus juicer.

So klandestine do you actually own a juicer or are you trying to do it by hand?

Do you own either a 3hp or 2hp blender? If so, blending the entire pomegranate is so good for you! Seeds and all.

i've tried pomegranates with my Champion and after that the Omega. with seeds, i agree, most non-raw-juicer-folks would find it a bit unappealing. the Pepto-bismol color almost chased me away, and i was surprised at all the seed bits that gave so much fiber to my drink.

i think i'll try the citrus juicer trick next time. that sounds like it could work. either that, or just getting some cheesecloth and a big pot and pressing the juice out with some weights. cold-pressed pomagranate juice. yum.

put it in a big cloth ( like a blanket)
wrap it in some sticks ( like chopsticks but much bigger)
twist it around
make it like a group effort
see the juice being relinquished
going through the sieve gauze
and dropping into the big looming bowl beneath
and
rejoice

The OrangeX Citrus Press works well.

just cut the poms in half, and press out the juice!

(other citrus presses other than the OrangeX may not work and be too flimsy to juice poms)
