I have recently started growing my own wheatgrass and now have a house wide phorid fly situation. How do I get rid of them?! and How do I prevent them from retuning? Thank you!

hi ursula

my guess is that that somehow the eggs were present in the soil or seed which you are using and that they hatched somewhere along the way to give you the probelem you have described.

try tempting them into a bucket or bowl of fruit or veggie scraps and sneak up on them with a wet towel or large rag and throw it over the top of the container when they are freasting on the scraps.

open the doo and walk them some distance away from your house and set the bucket on the grownd and rmove the towell or rag and turn them back to nature.

i do this all the time with fruit fly which gather in summer months around my indoor compost receptacle,

good luck

Thank you! I will give that a try. Any suggestions on how to get the larva out of the soil?

you could put it in the oven for a half hour or so.

try about 250 degrees or so.

that should sterilyze it.

John,
You are lovely. Thank you for taking the time to reply to my post. I'm just getting ready to try baking.
