Types of Juicers

Okay,
Going raw and am totally new at all this(actually a little trepidatious about getting it right). So I have read the articles and comparisons on discountjuicers.com and have gone through about 5 pages of posts about juicers. I apologize ahead of time if this is rehashing the same question. I see that you all recommend certain brands of juicers, but what about type?
The Twin Gear Press, such as the Green Star Juice Extractor, is out of my price range, but is that what I should eventually strive for? The Omega 8003 is a Dual Stage Single Auger Juicer, the Champion, that some on this board use, is a masticating juicer, and the Breville (I assume) is a centrifugal juicer. Do the ways they juice REALLY mean anything? I am leaning towards getting a Champion because I like the versatility of using it for so many things besides juicing fruits and veggies, i.e. nut butters and raw applesauce. Does that machine really stand up and do what it says, and is a masticating juicer a good choice for the long haul?

Thanks!

You seem to have a good knowledge about Juicing and Juicers. My Best Advice would say to go with your Feelings and Jump In. Decisions can always change as you go along. My first juicer was a Champion and I used it for many, many years juicing Carrots. I still say the best all-purpose Juicer is the Omega 8003.
I wish JJ would come back and disagree with me......WY

LOL...Thanks WY --> Did you only juice carrots? What about apples and celery? I don't really need it for leafy greens, I'll just use my blender for those.
So the Omega and Champion are basically the same with only slightly different extraction methods? Good to know...to bad there isn't a place to test drive juicers to know for sure which one you'll like the best.

Having just finished reading up a little more and seeing a side-by-side comparison [www.discountjuicers.com]; I think I will go with the Omega 8003

JJ....I didn't say the Omega 8003 was good
for Carrots. I said it's the best all-purpose Juicer. If
I had to have only one Juicer, it'd be the 8003. I hate
to think about being limited to only one. As it is, I have
one for Wheatgrass, one for Carrots, and one for Citrus.
It's good to hear from you JJ. I hope you're Well. I'm
getting better on Juices and Smoothies......WY

I've been happy with carrot juice in my omega - what am I missing? (maybe I don't want to know - my state of blissful ignorance will be shattered!)

You're doing just fine using your Omega 8003
for juicing Carrots. You get a more nutritious juice than
I do using an Omega 4000 for carrots, but I'm willing to
sacrifice some nutrition for 'ease of operation'. It also
depends on the amount. Juicing a small amount of carrots
does okay with the 8003 (and I use my 8003 sometimes for
that), but a large amount makes it too much like Work......WY

maria

the omega 8003 is only good for leafy greens and wheatgrass..the champion does n0ot do greens or wheatgrass. it is primarily for carrots and apples ...evan celery gets tangled up and makes a messy situation to clean.

wheatgrass yogi is not giving you the correct idea...not sure what he is trying to say since you specified above that you are not interested in juicing greens but carrots, apples and celery.

be careful because juicers are hard to return after you use them.

Well it wasn't done on purpose. I thought
I was saying that the 8003 was okay at juicing everything,
but Carrots are hard to push through the Feeder Chute,
whereas my 4000 takes Carrots very easily. I find the
8003 especially good for Celery. I don't think the
Champion Juicer should even be considered. Do you?......WY

Hi Guys,
I'm back again...you guys are really funny...I saw you 2 in a couple other posts as well.
Here's what I would like to primarily use the juicer for: hard friuts and veggies like pears, apples, carrots AND leafy greens like spinach and wheatgrass. JJ, what juicer do you use? Guess I have some more research to do :-)

I am with you Maria - this is not an easy decision is it!?!?

Emily - are you juicing everything in the 8003?

I was thinking of getting a Samson Juicer myself. It's similar to a Champion, however it CAN juice wheatgrass. Sounds perfect to me, until someone asked me a simple question.

Do you want all your juices/nut butters/apple sauces that come out of your Samson to taste like wheatgrass?

Of course I don't want everything to taste like wheatgrass. Yuck! Anyone have experience with this? Will the plastic hold on to wheatgrass smell and taste?
