Nuts - releasing enzyme inhibitors vs. water-logging

I was reading an interview today that discussed a question I have had for a while and I wanted to see what the folks on here think. The discussion was around whether nuts and seeds should be soaked. The thought was that it was great if they germinate because of all the benefits you get from that. However, if they don't germinate (like a lot of pumpkin seeds, broken/chipped nuts, walnuts, pecans, etc) then eating a soaked nut would be similar to eating unsoaked while drinking water - hard on the digestion. There was no mention of the tannins (one of the main reason I soake the nuts with skins on them).

What do you all think?
