Gravy without mushrooms?
Posted by: Diana (Cda) ()

I don't have mushrooms, coconut milk or meat ... I made my lunch a little earlier then when I went to the fridge for the bag of mushrooms I thought I still had, I came up empty.

Anyone have any ideas for a gravy-like recipe that doesn't have either shrooms or anything coconut yet this creamy and dark in colour? I can't think of a thing and I've searched 3 raw forums so far. Everything seems to need shrooms or miso or stuff I just don't have on hand <sigh> (I'm due for a big grocery shop this weekend; I just started a new job so was 3 weeks without pay until yesterday <g>winking smiley. I'm running a little low on supplies <g>.

Thanks! smiling smiley

you could make a thick paste out of dried onion flakes , mixed iwth oil ..some seasoning and water ...you might have to add some sort of thickener tho .. like flour .. (dont try instant onion soup mix ..done this wayyyyyyyyyyy toooo salty lol)...add a little soy sauce to darken...

if you didnt want to heat the ingredients im thinking you have to set the time out to soak the onion flakes till mushy

Do you have almond butter on hand? You could try a mixture of almond butter, nama shoyu or sea salt, a little tiny bit of garlic, onion, parsley, water.

I meant to respond a long time ago but time got away from me and then I forgot. Sorry!

All great ideas. The almond butter is impractical as I find it too expensive but I will definitely keep it in mind, esp. making it at home from scratch somehow.

Neat idea re the dried onion flakes, etc. That's given me an idea to try.

Thanks! Cheers. yawning smileyD
