Hi people,
this is Ewa from Poland.
Could you please tell me if eg. broccoli or cucumbers are OK as greens in a smoothie? Or do those greens have to be leafy, like romaine?
Sorry for my shabby English,
Ewa

I've never tried broccoli - don't think it would be so great. cucumbers make it light and airy and very fresh. Most of the time when we talk of putting greens in our smoothies, we are refering to leafy greens: spinach, kale, parsley, romaine, etc. Plus what ever fruit you desire. Frozen bananas are a good addition to make it cold and thick like a milkshake. I like to add cinnamon and ginger to mine - really wakes me up in the morning.

Welcome to the site, Ewa! Your English is just fine!

Main greens I use are those where you can see a lot of green, especially dark green. My main ones are:

kale of all types
arugula (one of my favorites favorite favorites!)
dandelion greens
spinach
collard greens
chard
cilantro
spirulina and/or bluegreen algae flakes

P.S. Today I got turnip greens. I like to buy whatever is the best deal by the pound. Sometimes I get mustard greens too, but they have a very strong and distinctive flavor I'm just not always in the mood for. winking smiley

Why have you chosen to use pasturized juices?

I am curious. Personally, I would be concerned about acidity and other issues with pasturized juices.

I really don't feel good about using pasteurized juice. It's just the only kind I can afford right now.

I think, according to the book, GREENS FOR LIFE, they have to be leafy greens but celery is ok

All I have is a Hamilton Beach blender. Can I make smoothies with it?
