Date: May 16, 2007 11:17PM I haven't tried this recipe yet but the other recipies in "The Raw Food Gourmet" by Gabrielle Chavez have all been successful and are easily adaptable to the ingredients that I happen to have on hand...so here goes...
2 ripe tomatoes, chopped 2 cloves of garlic 1/4 Cup raisins 2 Tbs extra virgin olive oil 1 Tbs chili powder 1 Cup dried tomatoes unrefined salt to taste 2 Cups raw walnuts, soaked and drained 1 Cup Raw, hulled sunflower seeds, soaked for a few hours to overnight, rinsed and drained 2 fresh ears of corn, cut off the cob 1 red bell pepper, chopped Puréé tomatoes with garlic, raisins, olive oil, and chili powder. Add dried tomatoes and let them soften. Blend. Add salt. Pulse blend walnuts, bell pepper, and sunflower seeds in a food processor fitted with an "S" blade until roughly chopped. And...Finally...Stir all of the ingredients together. As I had mentioned before all of her other recipies that I have prepared have been great and can be easily modified to your liking or ingredient availability...Diana Re: Raw Chili

Date: May 17, 2007 01:57AM I have that book too. 'Tis a good one. I haven't tried that recipe yet either. I think all the fat put me off. She doesn't say how many servings she intends for it to make. Any guesses? -Erin Raw Done Light dogma-free RAW Gazpacho For The Soul Re: Raw Chili

Date: May 17, 2007 11:18PM Hello zenpawn...I think if you set the table with some guacamole, salsa, and perhaps some large lettuce leaves for wraps...perhaps 2 VERY hungry people up to 4 moderatly hungry people would be able to dine...Hmmm...now I'm curious...OH...was it the fat from the olive oil or the nuts and seeds that put you off...this recipie would probably work well with soaked and sprouted beans...the beans would just be an analogue like TVP is in cooked vegan chili...Diana Re: Raw Chili

Date: May 18, 2007 02:19AM Well, the olive oil is probably easily dropped, but the nuts are actually serving as texture, so they are the fat source that put me off. I like nuts and seeds, but just in a little more moderation. Sprouted beans, as you say, would likely work quite well (in fact, that would be closer to standard cooked chili), but I don't do much sprouting. -Erin Raw Done Light dogma-free RAW Gazpacho For The Soul Re: Raw Chili

Date: May 22, 2007 10:45AM Most of the time I use recipes books as a guide and then customize the recipes to my taste...I think people add WAY too many ingredients when preparing food...Diana Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
