Vegan Eco-Villages in Hawaii vs. the Continental USA?

My husband and I have been searching for vegetarian eco-villages in the USA and all we ever find are those vegetarian eco-villages that are located on the Hawaiian Islands. We don't understand this and we find it to be very strange and frustrating. Does anyone know why this is? We have been informed about 2 or 3 vegan eco-villages in the Continental USA, but only 2 or 3 and for various reasons, they are not suitable. I'm interested in others' feedback.
