Can I plant fruit trees next to a busy street?

I live at the end of my block right next to a street with heavy traffic. Do you think I can harvest fruit without it being polluted? I want to plant a persimmon tree.

i would think you would get a lot of pollution on your fruit but im not sure how badly ... im not familiar with persimmons .. do they have a hard skin or soft? smiling smiley
