What are you doing in - or eating from - the garden today?

1. I'm still pulling dandelions from between the beds (and throwing them in the compost pile). The leaves are too old now to eat.

2. Eating mixed salad greens with volunteer young dill. Unbelievably tasty.

3. Waiting for the peas...

We are having cold + wet + I live in Gardening Zone 3, so no melons yet!

Wow, zone 3! You are really far up north, eh? I am on the border zone 5/6. I am still eating dandelion greens, they are just fine here. Our onions are doing great, and the lettuce is just starting to poke through.

My "upside-down" tomato plants are looking pretty good, even though there were a few very chilly nights when I first moved them outside. And then we had a boatload of rain, which I thought would rot the roots, but they survived okay...

We have parsley & dill growing in our indoor garden & I regularly cut pieces from those for salads/smoothies, etc.

Did some weeding today. Getting some blooms on the cukes, tomatoes, and jalapeno peppers though I am pinching those until the plants get bigger. Otherwise, not much going on.

Juicerkatz, I am just curious - do you have a proper little greenhouse or what. I mean for your herbs.

I presume that all frost danger is past by now? Did you start your tomatoes from seed? Do you grow old varieties? I have just finished putting my 9 tomato plants in the garden today. Sunny, but there will be MORE rain. Geeze.

Nubster, what Zone are you in? Did you start your cukes from seed?

We have a couple of large south/east facing windows that the herbs do just fine in; I have a couple of large benches that they sit on, as the sills are not wide enough.

I eventually want to replace those windows with greenhouse style windows for even more growing room.

Our frost danger is past in my zone, that's for sure. Purchased the young tomato plants from our local health/grocery store. They were just little 4" chutes at the time, now a couple of feet long.

We have heirloom varieties - brandywine, mr. stripey, and a hybrid - Super Sweet 100, which is a fast grower.

Can't wait! I usually end up pulling some of the onions before they are mature...grinning smiley

Zone 6 and no...not from seed. I bought seed but got a late start so I bought plants from a local greenhouse. I do have some hot peppers (habanero) growing from seed as well as some of my tomatoes. I am growing Brandywine from seed and the rest are nursery plants. Black Krim, Purple Cherokee, and Boxcar Willie. I am also doing carrots, garlic, onions, kale, chard, spinach, watermelon and cantaloupe all from seed.

Here in Newfoundland, transplanted brocolli, cauliflower, cabbage, tomato, and greens (chois) all started from seed when I arrived.

The other day put into a little makeshift greenhouse transplanted melons, cukes, zuchs.

Waiting for peas, carrots, beets to sprout. Saw spinach and lettuces little cots.

Until I come to a computer again, 007

Watching the glorious rain sprinkle down on my veggie box.
First rain we have had here in Pa for a long time.
Everything is parched brown.

Eating fresh lettuce from my parents garden.

All righty then. It has been 20 days since anyone posted here on their gardening and/or eating. How about an update?

I am looking forward to when my Jaspee de Vendee melonette-type winter squash will be ready. This is a hard winter squash that you do not have to cook, it's that sweet.
