Ch-ch-ch-chia

My maiden journey with my Sprout Master was half a tray alfalfa, half chia. I basically covered the damp bottom of the tray with seeds, misted them three times a day and then ate some very lovely alfalfa sprouts. The chia did not sprout so well. Maybe half a dozen sprouts came up around the time I was harvesting alfalfa.

What can I do to improve the growth of my chia? I don't care to eat just soaked seeds (although if they're soaked in raw 'eggnog' they turn into a fabulous pudding). Why do the chia pet ads make growing chia sprouts look so easy?

If you used a tray, does that mean you used dirt for these sprouts? Just curious why you didn't use the jar method. (I don't have an answer about the chia seeds. Sorry.)
