Date: July 22, 2007 02:45AM You need to let them grow longer till ALL the hulls fall off. When growing buckwheat they sprout unevenly so even though they might appear green and bright in 7 days, when you spread the leaves apart you will see maybe half the crop still has seed hulls that haven't bloomed so wait maybe 3-6 days more and all the hulls usually are spent by then and so much easier to clean and eat upon harvesting. Date: August 19, 2007 04:31PM Funny, I have only ever planted buckwheat as a cover crop and to turn back into the soil for conditioning. It can re seed all over once it flowers so I used to turn it under just before it flowered. It was good for the soil.
