fasting alternatives?

two weeks ago i kissed the earth again (had a weird fall) and tore a ligament along the inside of my big toe.

was on my hands and knees the first week. now i can walk some.
im applying ice and clay packs daily and trying to rest rest rest
while elevating it.

unfortunately i resorted to motrin after losing too much sleep and am STILL popping them which i am not proud to admit.

i did see a dr who confirmed it is prob ligament rather than bone and may take 2 months or more to heal and prescribed MORE motrin.

i really wish i could fast so more energy could go to healing, but living alone, and being somewhat disabled prior to the mishap, precludes getting physically weak. plus i do need to be able to get the sweet dog out 3-4 times a day. and juicing or blending are more labor intense than i can manage right now.

im mono-ing oranges over romaine with a melon here and there....which is a very atypical juxtapositioned food plan for me, but im just going on intuition.
i cant think of any other alternatives to fasting. im just very glad the damage wasn't worse, which i totally attribute to being raw and yoga fortified.

all ideas greatly appreciated!!!

A detox diet is a light (ie. very moderate amounts) raw, high water content,
diet.
Don't eat first thing in the morning, to allow the cleansing begun while sleeping to continue a few hours more.
Start the day with fruits.
Salads later.
Don't eat late at night.
Juices are fine.

Thats the general idea.

Mono-eating is an excellent alternative. Keep up the good work!

Getting a lot of rest and downtime while your toe is healing will help.

Another option would be to get a friend to take care of your dog while you fast. It also helps to have a friend check in on you, to make sure you're OK if you are fasting.

thanks everyone for all the suggestions and support.
i am very fortunate that i have the freedom to rest alot.

the idea of semi fasting really resonated. i already fast from
9pm thru 11 am every day. to extend that by 2-3 hours would be
a way my body can heal deeper without getting weak and more wobbly
than i basically am.

fortunately the sweet dog is so acquiesant to my lounging about all day.

thanks everyone. fruitgirl

Fruitgirl your plan "fasting from 8pm-noon would be 16 hours" sounds great.

A high "water content" list might look something like this

1) Fresh raw organic Juices

2) melons, oranges, grapefruit, grapes, cucumbers, tomatoes

3) apples, peaches, apricots, cherries, fresh figs, mango, plumbs

4) vegetables and greens

---------------------------------------

Go easy on these (#5) if at all, while doing detox - afterwards enjoy them !

5) banana, dates, and avocado

---------------------------------------

Avoid these while doing detox, afterwards use as needed

6) dried fruit and nuts and oils
----------------------------------------

and as you already know, of course nothing dehaydrating;
(ie. salt, sugar, caffein, alcohol, & vinegar) or processed...

that's it.

When it is preceded by a water fast, it allows the detox to continue at a slower rate while supplying needed vitamins, minerals, and energy. Then it is called a "half-fast". The originator especially recommended Apples during the day and salad in the evening, modest amounts.

However your body is also in the process of healing some injured tissue, so you probably want to also make sure you have excellent nutrition, so I think you still have to rely on your intuition as to whether to use some supplements, or whether you feel your reserves are excellent from previous raw diet. Spiruleana and bee pollen, for example might be alternatives to pills with additives and binders.

I hope you are able to discontinue the Motrin soon.

happyway...

this is too phenomenally wild..that you send me that link.

since my foot healing challenge, i have been going thru old
cassettes copying to itunes what i want to keep, before donating
them all. yesterday the momentum came to a big pause when i began
listening to a set i bought over 12 years ago and can't remember
ever listening to.

Meditation in the Zone by Shinzen Young

i was surprised at my attraction to these tapes as it is a big
diversion from my usual meditation practice, but
the "mind over body" concentration techniques are helping me
transcend the discomfort. and my temperament vibes well with
his voice.

so thank you for being in the synchronistic groove. im totally
blown away!

im about to end todays half fast today. oranges and romaine again.
yum.

my goal is to cut the advil doseage in half today.

ps the person who originated the "half fast" are you referring
to a woman named karen by any chance? that would be doubly synchronistic
if we are thinking of the same person. she is so obscure.

In " The Raw Secrets, the raw vegan diet in the real world" by Frederic Patenaude, in chapter 28 Albert Mosseri describes it's discovery and use.

Shinzen has many interesting free articles on his site.

All over the counter pain medicines are anti-inflammatories (not opiates).
Ginger tea is an anti-inflammatory. Fresh Ginger can be sliced and grated, and simmered for a 5-20 min. It can then be mixed with apple juice and a little lemon to make a nice drink.

"Anti-Inflammatory Effects

Ginger contains very potent anti-inflammatory compounds called gingerols. These substances are believed to explain why so many people with osteoarthritis or rheumatoid arthritis experience reductions in their pain levels and improvements in their mobility when they consume ginger regularly. In two clinical studies involving patients who responded to conventional drugs and those who didn't, physicians found that 75% of arthritis patients and 100% of patients with muscular discomfort experienced relief of pain and/or swelling. ".....etc.
