Teenage son has bad sore throat
Posted by: juicerkatz ()
Date: March 15, 2010 06:23PM

My wife was fighting a "medium" intensity cold last week, seems to have passed something on to our son. Sore throat came on overnight, along with a slight headache. Headache is gone now, only symptom is the sore throat.

We have bumped up the juicing to hit it from that angle; anyone have any suggestions for healing and also some relief for the "hurts to swallow" situation?

Thanks smiling smiley

Salt water gargle, garlic (roughly chop and swallow with a mouthful of water, you'll hardly taste it at all), ginger tea or ginger juice in very warm water if you don't wish to boil it. You can add lemon and honey to that if you like. Drinking anything warm washes bacteria off the surface of the mouth and throat just like washing your hands does.
Pineapple is an anti-inflamatory.
white willow bark may help with pain.
good luck!

I'd be using Calcium Bentonite Clay....as a gargle and just
drinking some. Twice a day should do it....WY

Thanks to all -

We've pretty much been doing exactly as everyone has mentioned here & also in the other thread, Tamu.

Except for the Garlic - we will see if he can be convinced to take that! We've been doing fresh juiced Orange/lemon juice, gargling w/ sea salt & WY, yes the Cal. Bent/ Clay.

Right now he has been sleeping a lot...

Since going all raw, I have been the only one not getting sick, other than a bit of sinus symptoms a couple times a year. Hope I don't jinx it by saying that! grinning smiley

Just hate to see someone suffer, y'know?

Update -

It looks as though he has strep throat, from the symptoms we have researched and the pics online. And, from what I remember when I had it as a teenager. His case is much milder than what I experienced, but in my case I had very little nutrition to go on at all, coming from a SAD household.

We have used homeopathy for years, so we have promptly started him on Belladonna, which is one of the treatments for strep. Also, plenty of fresh OJ, carrot/celery/apple juice, clay baths & drinking clay.

Trying to hit it from all angles, as we want this to be knocked out quick & not spread to other family members as well. He is a bit more energetic today...

Crap. Keep a close eye on it. It is one of the things I will treat with antibiotics in the kids if neccessary.

Garlic. Tape slices of it to the bottoms of his feet under warm socks. And oil of oregano. Neither taste very nice but it's better than Buckley's winking smiley.

My healthy fingers are crossed for you tonight!

If it's strep, I can recommend from experience that taking [true]colloidal silver helps. My brother and I seemed to have had strep alternatingly every year the entire time we were growing up. We were dosed with antibiotics with middling success. I got a recurrence a couple of years ago, to my horror--Oh, no, not this again!-- and two days after I started gargling with colloidal silver and taking a small amount internally, it was completely gone. I hope, since your boy is appearing to improve, that he can heal thoroughly soon; strep is something that likes to linger and go dormant, so you have to be sure it's eradicated. Best of luck.

Thanks to all for the suggestions.

Tamu - We have used colloidal silver in the past - actually have a unit that makes it. Haven't done that lately though...but we should, I guess. At any rate, he is showing a marked improvement today. His throat is much less swollen & very little soreness.

More energy (for playing video games of course! grinning smiley ) but we are making him rest so all his energy can be used for healing/recovery. Continuing the juices and clay, topical/baths & drinking around 3 - 4 glasses per day.

Again, thanks to all for the positive vibes you are sending our way, much appreciated! smiling smiley

Update -

He was pretty well on the road to recovery, things looked fairly good on Saturday. Throat has lost a lot of the redness, swelling went down. He was all set to return to school today, except...

Last evening, he had an ulcer form on the back/side area of his mouth that has caused the swelling to return, making swallowing painful again.

He has used up all of his sick days for school, so now we will be making an appt. with a Naturalpath Dr. in our area. Most likely, she will push nutrition along with herbs/homeopathy.

Nothing takes the place of a healthy, strong well functioning immune system, however.

This is one of the main reasons that I created that thread several months ago about *family members* that do not want to eat a raw diet, etc...

Am hoping for a speedy recovery, but with a compromised immune system, this thing wants to hang on...

jk,

You have to really focus on the immune system--your boy is at the penultimate stage of the fight: his immune system vs. the pathogen. It's a matter of aggressive treatment over time, rather than just time. If your son's internal environment continues to be inhospitable to the bacterium, eventually it will die off. Think about how a pharmaceutical antibiotic works.

Hope the naturopath gives you more stuff for the arsenal, and that jk jr. has a speedy and full recovery. Sending good energy your family's way.

The Naturalapath says he has an abscess, from the strep infection. She instructed to continue with what we are doing, and also gave us; Heper Sulf 200C, H.E.M.P. + Cmpd. Throatease. Which contains herbs (Echinacia, Goldenseal & others}, and a high powered Vegetarian vitamin.

If the abscess shows no improvement within 24-36 hrs., she recommended getting it lanced...SO, that is where we are at this point.

We ended up going to the ER as per the Nath. dr. recommendations, as his throat was swelling more. ENT specialist used a Bore needle/lance to remove the infection, or as much as possible.

We did not go the antibiotic route which they wanted to do an IV. Keep a close watch on him for 72 hrs. to make sure infection doesn't return.

What an ordeal...

Oh man, I'm sure he loved that because it sounds like SO much fun! Maybe this will stimulate some healthy leanings in him though... best of luck with that.

Yes, I'm hoping so. Being with his friends can be a bad influence, as he is tempted to eat the way they do...A parent can't have control 24/7...

AND...we actually went ahead with an antibiotic IV after all...I was not and still not sold on that idea, but it is a done deal now. It was Rocephin, took about an hour to deliver.

From the research I have done over the years I am of the mindset that drugs never cure disease. I know we all have different opinions, that's where I'm at at this point.

The Dr. removed almost 3 tubes (1" x 3" approx. size) of infected material after the lance procedure. His throat was very swollen. Wasn't that painful, more of a gag sensation, but not much.

They apply a numbing solution to the area so not to really cause any/much discomfort. Too bad plainlydressed is not active on the boards right now; I would appreciate her input on the matter since she is an ER nurse.

Anyway...He is relieved, in much better spirits and feeling much better - and looking forward to returning to school - NOT!!!

Ewe, gross. Better out than in though, right? One dose of antibiotics is better than 10 days and some probiotics will fix him back up on that level. Hopefully he will be encouraged to eat a better diet some of the time, I think that every little thing you do to benefit yourself adds up so the more little things you do, the better off you are!

definitley second the restoring of good bacteria call.

cultured foods if possible, capsuled probiotics are largely poor, also you will need to feed the good bacteria with prebiotic fibres such as rice bran, seaweeds, FOS, inulin etc.
