Anyone use a Bidet style toilet or attachment?
Posted by: juicerkatz ()

I have been looking at these online. I heard a radio show awhile back where the user raved about how much better this system is in comparison to our toilet tissue method.

Apparently he just returned from a trip to Japan where they refer to us as "stinky Americans",lol...

So many different styles/options available. While I certainly cannot afford a $1400.00 complete toilet retrofit at this time, the attachment models start at $70.00 or so, and many reviewers seem to like them.

Anyone here use a Bidet style toilet or attachment? I would be interested in hearing your thoughts/comments.

Thanks, JK smiling smiley

Only on vaction in Europe. Must say, I'm not rigid about change, but I didn't think I could ever get used to using one daily. Have you seen the attachments at RealGoods?

I'm checking out that link now, Tam.

Without getting too ahem, personal...why do you say you don't think you could ever get used to using one daily?

Admittedly, I've never used one, but from what I have been reading they sound absolutely superb.

If it's anything like the Water Pic that I use on my teeth, it would be great. Hey, it might be fun....

I have used them, and prefer them to the toilet paper method...

Well you get up from the pot with an entirely wet arse for one thing. Go through a lot of towels I'd imagine, one for each bottom, a fresh one each time, etc. Unless you're also willing to spring for some sort of air drying thing as well lol.

A boyfriend years ago had spent time in India and was in the habit of keeping a cup in the loo just for rinsing. The poor boy method...

lol...

I thought of asking some of the "personal" questions, but decided to keep it above board...

I tried to watch some youtube vids on it, but many feature giggling teens/young adults which are not much help.

One woman mentioned that they keep hand towels on rack for each member of the family. The heat dryer seems like a good idea.

I will keep researching.

jk,

What coco is saying: It was oddly unsanitary seeming for something that was supposed to, well, sanitize one. Maybe it's a matter of getting accustomed to it and coming up with a kinetic routine, like we all did when we were trained to use a kiddie toilet. Still, how much more time do I want to spend in the potty with my poo? None, if I can help it!

When I used one, it was quite comfortable, and quick, it was very effective, I wiped with paper to be sure (as I usually do) which completely dried me off, and there was not even a hint of debri left behind... maybe Ive just used a more effective one?

Also, we shouldn't be posting about this in public, the toilet paper industry may be watching... they will never allow the bidet to get popular in the U.S., you know its true... just follow the money!... heheheheehhee

I confess that we use disposable wipes. It's one of the only environmentally wasteful things I do but I started buying them because little boys are just not very good at sufficient wiping. Now we all use them, I hate the idea of a dirty bumm. I did just rinse when I was a single gal and lived in places where you could reach the sink from the loo winking smiley.

I do that now, but not with the sink, I use the bathtub (it pours out water almost as slow as the sink though, lol)

The rinsing thing, my Danish friend also does this every time she visits the loo. Wants to be "kissably fresh" at all times is her philosophy. Not a bad policy winking smiley.

wuhh? the slang word for fecal matter, the one which is not a curse word, is taught to children nation wide, was filtered to random symbols in my above post?lol...wow... we are all more developed mentally than a 3 year old here right? I mean I haven't seen a single person here below an age in which that word is appropriate,lol... especially since Ive seen actual curse words that haven't been changed on this forum... weirdness...

Coco... I think that is a very very good policy,lol...

I have used them when I had to due to traveling in various countries, and while I like being squeeky clean the logistics of getting dry afterwards is too time consuming. LOL

Have you seen the Saturday Night Live skit about a bidet? Funny.
