Neurotoxins, MND, ALS...
Posted by: Lee_123 ()

I have been diagnosed with a motor neuron diseases. Right now, atypical ALS. I am going to see some specialists ... who are more specialized than the specialists I am seeing.

Conservative medical opinion holds that there are two theories: (1) Genetics are to blame, or (2) Neurotoxins are to blame.

I can't do much if I have an inherited genetic disorder. However, I'm interested in any advice regarding the possible elimination of neurotoxins.

My first thought was to water fast. But then I thought that perhaps that would overload my system with the release of toxins.

Since conservative medicine offers absolutely nothing, I may as well try alternatives! This is serious stuff... Any suggestions are welcome.

Thanks.

My first thought was to check out Gabriel cousins because he is a physician and has done some work on the bodies responce to toxins. Water fasting is very harsh. What are you eating now? I really like how green smoothies make me feel, perhaps the smoothie can help? wheat grass juice is suppose to help with toxins, it sure helps me with gum infections I would presume wheat grass would help the other parts of the body real well.

If you are going to water fast, find a place that will do a medically supervised water fast. In California there is True North. But there are other places that will do this also.

Thanks Pam and Bryan.

I'm mostly doing 811 type eating. This diagnosis just came yesterday so I'm kind of stunned right now. I knew something was wrong... <sigh>

..if it's to do with neurotoxins then the amino acid, glutamate, can be a suspect. There's the ALS drug -- "Riluzole is believed to reduce damage to motor neurons by decreasing the release of glutamate via activation of glutamate transporters. In addition, the drug offers a wide array of other neuroprotective effects, by means of sodium and calcium channel blockades,[35] inhibition of protein kinase C,[36] and the promotion of NMDA (N-methyl d-aspartate) receptor antagonism." (Wikipedia)

..for foods high in glutamates -- [www.nutritiondata.com]

I've had Bells Palsey and numbness in the extremities in the past few years and upped my B12 to 100mcg and am looking at some nutrient issues. I don't know if it was Lyme disease, but I'm better now.

Muscle wasting, atrophy, right arm and hand.

Confirmed by EMG, nerve conduction tests, and multiple MRI scans.

Yeah, right-handed. Can't hold a toothbrush in my right hand any more... Stuff like that. Hand/arm trembling when I try and hold my green smoothie jar in my right hand.

my first recomendation is to increase your supply of anti oxidants and calm yourself down from the initial shock of the announcement.

next you need to establish an absolutely firm mind set that you are going to be sucessful in your recovery.

heavy metal toxicity is the first issue which you should investigate. chealation therapy is a solid approach to consider for delaing with it.
use both types intravenous and oral chelation. dr gary gordon has good oral chealtion products.

juicing with specific hers and wheatgrass will detox and begin the repairs you will be needing. get a greenstar juicer and use it. greenstar breezes through the kind of juicing you need to do and it gives avery high quality juice which is on the theraputic leval you will require .

if you have amalgam (mercury fillings in you teeth) have them removed by a qualified expert dentist. this is a very serious factor to be mindful of.

check this one out for emotional healing which is important for you as well.

do not eat any foods which you know are bad for you evan if you were in good health. eliminate poison from your life, including some people who may be of that ilk.

get plenty of sunshine and fresh air.

far infra red sauna will be excellent for detox. the lay down type is the easiest to take for the amounts of sauna you will need. here is one link but there are others so do your homework and find the one you think is of the best quality.

what i have come up with so far is a good start... we can augment to later.this approach later.

i wish you a rapid and sucessful recovery.

Lee,

juicin' john's advice is good, especially the need to believe that this is a serious but conquerable condition that you can succeed at healing from. I wish you the very best of health starting right now. Keep us posted.

Thank you so much John for taking the time to offer all that info and those links. I really appreciate it.

The first two things I considered myself were chelation and dental fillings. Man, I sat in the hack dentist's chair with mercury filling residue in my mouth as a kid. The few people I have heard about who have lived with ALS (not cured, but survived in so-so shape) did a lot of detox/cleansing and do a lot of supplements.

I will be going through those links and reading up big time. I don't have time to waste.

Thank you again. This is really scary stuff.

..I've got a mouth full of mercury fillings half ground down from my bruxism years.. can't be good

..the binding agent for mercury is selenium --

"Nutritional Support: Help draw mercury out of your body by eating foods rich in selenium - raw Brazil nuts... beans and peas, Brussel sprouts, onions, cabbage, garlic...; vitamin C and pectin - citrus fruits, apples and kiwi; and vitamin E – tocopherols - almonds, asparagus, spinach and other green leafy vegetables, olives, raw seeds and nuts."

juicin' john always posts a wealth of info., I appreciate his postings as well. I second everything he has mentioned, and not to leave anyone else out - all the posts/suggestions are excellent. When I started on my healthful journey some 10 + years ago, I didn't realize just how much we are bombarded in our daily lives with tons of toxins, literally.

To enforce what john has mentioned, and others, I suggest living as close to nature as your possibly can; By that I mean, cut out ALL of the junk/bad/unhealthy foods in your life. A saying that I heard and always liked is;

"I don't eat anything with a face, or anything that came from anything that had a face"

Get the idea?!? Also, cakes, doughnuts, pastries, sodas, beer, wine, pizza, chips, basically anything cooked or altered from its' original state, cut all that stuff. The more I got into the healthy way of living, I was amazed at how much unhealthy foods there were lurking in my pantry & other areas.

To put it very simply, I like to eat food that is as close to its' natural, original state as possible. Obviously, juicing is an essential step on the path to great vibrant health.

While all of these suggestions may not be a total "cure" to a specific disease, they all go a long way in removing/flushing any toxins out of our bodies & rebuilding the immune system. When the body is in a compromised situation, it doesn't need any extra burdens placed on it.

Here is a neat link on cooked food & what happens when it enters the body. It is one of the reasons I decided to go completely raw.

In addition to all of that, I removed ALL chemicals possible from my home; NO window cleaners, furniture polish, household cleaners under the sink anymore, all tossed out in the garbage. I created most of my own natural recipes for natural cleaners, vinegar/lemon for example as a window/general purpose cleaner.

I am still learning as well, but I am loving it, & I don't know if it is just all in my head (probably) some of it is imagined) winking smiley winking smiley

but I believe I feel better, can breath easier, and have better general health since going "all natural." Also threw out bathroom cleaners (Comet, lysol, bleach, most shampoos except for some of the "healthy" ones.)

I used to work in a petroleum plant, and I can remember feeling very much under the weather, or just the feeling that something wasn't right in my body for much of the time I was in that job, not to mention the constant headaches.

Wow, this is a long winded reply, so sorry! I will close with this; While the Drs. may have very good intentions, and are definantly way more schooled on the subject of disease than I, don't accept a grim prognosis & just give in.

Fight it, live life to the fullest, happy thoughts will defeat negative ones, and above all, remember;

"The Titanic was built by experts, the Ark by amateurs; don't bet your future on the experts!!!"

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention - Most of my family & friends think I am totally nuts for not doing the things that they do, eating cooked, drinking beer, the parties, cookouts, etc.

I like to tell them that I'm a "Level 5 Vegan"! (Look it up on google)

Okay, so I am nuts!!!

I too have recently been thinking of how we are all subjected to so many toxins. It's overwhelming what I have been subjected to over the course of my life so far.

I have already lost much of the muscle in my right arm and hand. I am hoping it is not too late for me.

Thanks for all your shared information and support. I really appreciate it.

I don't care if people think I'm nuts if I am still able to walk and talk. Nuts would be ok as long as I am healthy. Or even somewhat healthy.

Hi Lee,

Just would like to add; As you may have already done, I would like to suggest to you to search google (example) for phrases like "successful natural als treatment", and other related phrases. I am sure there are folks out there that have battled this & won, it is just a matter of finding the right info. The answer surely won't come from the medical community.

One can get mired down in a ton of information, there is so much out there to read & absorb. I must admit I am not up on ALS & the causes/symptoms/conditions, etc, so I cannot offer any specific ideas myself, other than the healthy ideas that I posted earlier.

Hang in there...

For myself I'd be doing Lugols Iodine, 5% solution on a daily basis. That would be first. Note*I've been on it for 2 years now, and just now cut back to nice small maintainence dose.

I had neurological symptoms from Toxic Black Mold while going into my 2nd year of doing the Iodine..what a conflict that created..but I got out of the toxic house, and kept using the Iodine and I'm feeling very good now. Most of the symptoms went away and since I've upped my raw diet now it's summer I'm going thru detox and sometimes a few of the symptoms appear.

I'm also very aware of what affects me with regard to things like Pledge, Swiffer, cleaning products, fragrances, candles, perfumes, smoke, etc..all things that choke me up, gives me headaches, makes me dizzy, etc..it's very apparent and very quick. Pledge about killed me recently..I had to go outside, then go back in and get rid of every little bit (we only used a very little bit) of it, throw out the new dusting mop and of course the Pledge.

Love,
Prism
