Highly muscled athletes represent only a very small fraction of the population. I don't think they are a reason to trash this metric.

Neither are some of the folks at the lower end of normal, such as myself, who take pains to achieve it and a very outstanding diet. We are so few as to be statistically insignificant.

At my last health check I got flagged for being under BMI 19 which is nonsense. But I do believe that BMI is a good indicator for the vast majority of people.

Waist circumference is probably a better measure, though.

you will understand the numerical fascination created by the american culture. Culture envolves thoughts like a cloud envolves a drop of water. The drop of water is not aware of the cloud.
