Reactivating thyroid after cancer - alternatives to suppressive therapy, is this possible?

Hello
This is probably a longshot but just wondering if anyone has tried to reactivate their thyroid after thyroid cancer? I take synthroid as a suppressive therapy to stop what's left of my thyroid from producing. Reason is that it is believed that the tumors are caused by the production of hormone produced by the thyroid. Therefore, taking a high dose of synthetic hormone tricks the body into beleiveing it has enough hormone and therefore, the thyroid will stop producing the hormone.

It seems it's very risky - high chance of recurrance, possiblity that thyroid won't even work, and just the balancing of hormones. I cannot find any doctors to work with me on this even naturopaths.

I would really, really, really, like to get this crap out of my system and try to reactivate my thyroid naturally. I'm transitioning to raw foods and would like to find an alternative to the drugs but not sure if it's even possible. Anyone familiar with this topic or have a similiar situation? Recommendations, referrals, etc.?

Thanks in advance.
Miche

yes there are several herbs which suppress the thyroid. Lemon balm for eg. Also maca is an adaptogen suited to the thyroid, which may help balance things. However I would consult with a good herbalist.

Thanks Rosmary,
actually I am not trying to supress it, (my docs are). I am hoping to go off my medication and reactivate it. Found a naturopath willing to do this. So if anyone is interested, I did find out it IS possible to reactivate your thyroid, even after years of being medicated/suppressed. The problem lies in the belief that once it begins working on its own, chances or recurrence for cancer are greatly increased. i'm willing to take that chance.
Still hoping to hear from anyone who's experienced this.

Too late for me, my whole thyroid is gone. Am on Eltroxin for life. At least I've discovered a healthy diet, never thought I could feel this good again. Not much I can do tho I've heard its best to avoid soy products but don't need to worry about "getting enough protein" because I'm eating raw fruit and greens now. Do take a sublingual B12 tho.

I would really love to hear how this goes for you. I don't know much about thyroid, but I had estrogen-positive breast cancer a few years ago.

The similarity is that I am supposed to believe that estrogen was part of the problem, and it's more or less my enemy now, so now I take drugs (tamoxifen) to interfere with that. This doesn't seem right or logical to me, because I am not old enough to be in menopause, and why would the natural condition of my body in a woman of my age be in any way dangerous to my health - I hate that this drug changes that.

Wish I was brave as you, I am just too scared to stop taking the drugs. If I am wrong the consequences are just too big. (My lymph nodes were positive for cancer, so I am still considered a high risk of recurrence.) Yet, I can't see the logic in this either. Hopefully my efforts to live a very healthy lifestyle will outweigh whatever damage these drugs are doing to me.

On the other hand, I was a healthy, slim, active (cooked) vegetarian with no family history whatsoever when I was diagnosed. My faith in a healthy lifestyle is a bit shaken also, but there was certainly some room for improvement, and I am doing my best to address that now.

I hope with all my heart that things go well for you.
