Short intense exercise such as tabata, HIIT have all been proven to be not only better for weight loss but for cardiovascular health also compared to low intensity endurance exercise.

Ive done my fair share of tabata style workouts and can say they are definitley a great tool for anaerobic fitness and weight loss.

Martial artists are best to train this way because the nature of the sport is largely anaerobic i.e when fighting. Short intense rounds.

I've seen this demonstrated and thought it was exciting, but you need to be pretty fit to start with! I think it's the equivalent of:

"Oh no, do you hear that? I think it's a saber tooth tiger . . . it IS a saber tooth tiger--RUN!!! . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . I think we lost him . . . "

LOL, sounds like a wrestling session with my kids. Intense vigorous action interspersed with panting fits of giggles on repeat for as long as we can stand it. Ha.

This is quite true at least partially, a good level of general fitness can be helpful for intense orientated workouts such as HIIT but on the other hand nothing really prepares you for the intensity and anaeorobic nature of these type of workouts than doing them yourself.
