I would be interested in reading any replies you may get to your sodium bicarbonate question, especially about the ph. Thanks for putting it out there Panchito.

This post got me thinking about baking soda so I did a little search for foot baths and baths using it. It works great..in fact it's the best thing I've ever tried for cleaning my cracked and sore heels.

Love,

These salt baths all generally work in the same way to detoxify and it bases heavily on osmosis so getting the concentration of salt right is essential.

The problem with baking soda though is that it is alkaline and as such will neutralize the skins natural acidic mantle which is what prevents opportunistic organisms from taking over such as fungal or bacterial overgrowths.

You can always draw clean water in the bath and add some apple cider vinegar (I'd only use real apple cider vinegar like Braggs) to the water to soak after the baking soda bath.

Yes, sodium bicarbonite is absorebed through the skin and with time is alkalizes your body. If this interests you, google Dr. Mark Sircus's amazing blog and he also has a great book about scientifically proven benefits of sodium bicarbonate.

They always say aluminum-free and then it says baking soda on the label. Weird. Like that baking powder Rumford.
