Hope you're doing well, and thanks so much for alerting us to the new guidelines!

Here's the new CDC guideline information from their website. It's definitely stricter, and does now include acknowledgement of what looks like a risk for aerosol contagion (being in the same room).

Plus, there's now "active monitoring" and "direct active monitoring", depending on the risk level. It's a little complicated. Anyway, I hope it's effective.

I wonder what they mean by "quarantine". Does it mean the person would be confined to their home; and if so, how is that enforced? Or will quarantine take place in some special facility or "tent" within a hospital somewhere?

Would it be enforced equally for health care workers and non-health care workers?

Also, what about people who have cared for Ebola patients here in the U.S., like the health care team caring for Dr. Spencer in Bellevue? Should health care workers be quarantined for 25 days after caring for Dr. Spencer, plus during the time that Dr. Spencer is in the hospital?

If it means being quarantined at home, people might appreciate the vacation time - especially if they were paid for it! Maybe that's just how I see it though. These are difficult questions, and someone will object no matter what (for sure).

25 days seems reasonable though, at least for monitoring. I like the idea of having some travel restrictions plus mandatory "direct active monitoring" for everybody - twice a day - as a step up from "active monitoring". Just like the "buddy system" for donning and doffing protective gear, "direct active monitoring" involving health care personnel would be like a buddy system for checking anyone who has been near Ebola.

Well, we'll see what happens!

Since the quarantine would take place before they arrived in the US, I suppose it would have to be based on the system in place used to protect our livestock from the foreign diseases of foreign livestock.

Yes, I saw that a few weeks ago and was irritated that the union chose to wait to strike until after the elections. I really agree that the nurses are being treated as dispensable as they are being give inadequate garments, etc. for a level 4 biohazard. Hopefully some inroads will be made on that glairing problem.

I agree that most of the top 10 leading causes of death in the US and around the world are caused by diet, and these include the top 2 leading causes: heart disease and several types of cancer. (Top ten include "accidents" ).

However, viruses such as Ebola, infectious bacteria such as staff and E. Coli, parasites such as pinworms and giardia, and prions such as Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease (Mad Cow Disease) do exist as well.

Smoking and other toxic environmental exposures also cause disease.

Genetics may cause diseases - hemophilia or sickle cell anemia for example.

Good diet prevents diet-related diseases and also contributes to disease resistance of the majority of other major diseases.

Appreciated the video SueZ. Yeah, he makes a great point that the CDC and others should not be sending a message that everything is known about Ebola. I think what he says is true - that when the CDC has to change a policy after saying everything is known, people become afraid.

He discussed the temperatures too. And the migration is troubling. It shouldn't be a surprise that people aren't always going to use the most modern modes of transportation.
