In the fantastic BBC documentary video from a few days ago remember the baby's father who was getting better, looked good, talked to the social worker, then went to take a shower, then collapsed and died there within minutes? It was at about the 22 minute mark.

I hope coconutcream saw that video. She said she hadn't seen any currant films of people bleeding from orifices. That poor sweet 11 month old baby bleeding from his eye before he died was so heartbreaking. He was number 604 in the Ebola graveyard. Just a number on a stick to mark his grave.

I hope it resurfaces somewhere. I didn't know BBC doesn't own the stuff they show on tv. This snippet is all I've been able to find of it so far. It features the M.D. the documentary followed holding the daughter of the man who died in the shower. The adorable little girl, Warrah, was the only one in her family who survived Ebola - and she almost didn't. Her mother and sib died before they got there. Before her father died he was playing with Warrah and they were happy and laughing. You could tell they had a close relationship. It was a fantastic 45 minute documentary. Maybe BBC will play it again on tv sometime.

Warrah and the baby boy with Ebola were being cared for by a 6 year old boy after her father collapsed and died in the shower. When the doctor went to check on the boy the little guy was clearly having trouble breathing and was bleeding profusely out of his right eye. He died shortly after that and his grave was marked by a stick with "604" in the graveyard that was made for 300 people. It looked like around 5 or 6 new holes were being dug at the time "604" was buried and all of the other gravesites looked freshly covered.

The doctor asked a recovered patient, who was being discharged, if she would stay on a bit until they found someone else to watch Warrah. The woman agreed to stay as she was waiting for her sister, who was also a patient, to recover.
On asking the woman who her sister was he hesitated as her sister, who he had not known was her sister, had just died, (which he discovered on camera just before he went to talk to her sister). The woman cried and decided the next day to leave instead of stay and take care of Warrah. The doctor said later he was glad to see her cry as he thought that was a healthy response. Most of the people he had to break news of their loved one's death to had no visible response, he said. These are the things that lead up to the last few minutes of the documentary which were shown in the snippet.

Yes, I think the media will resume interest when/if it comes back to the US. There always seems to be news of some new person/persons who are being admitted in the US for symptoms. It seems to be kind of all about the US.

The death toll from this outbreak is now at 5,689, with most new cases coming from Sierra Leone, where fewer than 70% of cases are isolated. This means a much greater risk of exposure for family members and friends. The outbreak is expected to get worse before it gets better.

The good news according to this article is that "Peter Piot, a leading specialist on the disease, said on Wednesday that...new infections should start to decline in all affected countries by the end of the year."

Apparently the first human trials for the Ebola vaccine were successful. Trials included 20 people, and there were no (known) side effects. Those people weren't exposed to Ebola of course, but tests show they've developed an immune response.

So, will this vaccine be distributed and mandated worldwide? No. The goal is to vaccinate only the health care workers treating Ebola patients, because health care workers are at highest risk.

"The hope is to be able to make enough vaccine to at least protect health care workers fighting the epidemic."

I won't be taking any vaccines. They say (now) only health care workers will get them so I expect a lot of the best and smartest ones taking early retirement. They will be replaced by less expensive ones. Maybe, in the US, with the 3K new incentive for hiring illegal aliens it will be just those people who hospitals will be looking to hire.

The 8th doctor in Sierra Leone to get Ebola was the doctor of the one who died once he was flown back here to the US. Might have gotten it when they were all hugging while celebrating #8's false negative test. #9 has a wife and small children.
