Fasting to heal
Posted by: suncloud ()

IMO, fasting is a very effective healer. Currently, I'm fortunate to be able to take advantage of this, and I'm on my 2nd day of water fast.

Apparently, my bladder was injured. An operation is available for this, but it would require being down for at least 6 weeks. Can't do that. And whenever I eat, symptoms from the injury become worse.

So, I'm fasting. Thank you John Rose for allowing me to occupy so much of my time today in replying to one of your posts! Took my mind completely off of FOOD! smiling smiley

Hope to go for at least 7 days. We'll see. (Have done this a few times before, but not specifically for this reason!)

Darn. Best wishes and I hope your fast works.

Have you ever tried pumpkinseed oil for your bladder? I love the stuff. It's my all time favorite oil. It's also beautiful having the distinction of being dichroic. Green where it's a thin coating and deep red where it pools.

Hey thanks SueZ! I'll definitely look into this.

I'm also thinking golden seal and seaweed (which Jethro Kloss calls "bladder wrack" ).

Fasting seems to really help, so I'll hopefully continue for a while at least.

Hope it works out. I have a flashlight that I use on rare occasions that takes away the pain on local areas (from sports). It could also work on the bladder, but that is only an idea. It is way more expensive to try than a bottle of oil. But iff you have a pile of money to burn, you may want to check it out:

There are also foods that fight inflammation (related to pain) but you are in a fast.

I hope your fast is enough, too. According to the guy I get my seaweed from, Larch Hanson, kelp works as well as bladder wrack internally. I'm saving my bladder wrack in case I ever need it for a poultice. It does not taste good. At all.

Thanks Panchito. Very sweet of you! Thank goodness, most of the time, I'm really not in any pain. It's just very uncomfortable after I eat. Water seems OK.

Oh. I thought bladder wrack was just any kind of seaweed. Yes, I hope the fast works!

LOL! Thanks for the warning. I do have kelp, which I really like.

Made it to the third day. Still just water. I feel good, but my energy is about at zero.

Absolutely. Too much for the bladder to handle right now.

What about coconut water? What kind of bladder issue do you have and do you know what caused it?

Thank you so much Prana for your encouragement! Definitely needed that today. smiling smiley

I made it to day 4. (MIDPOINT to my target of 7 days!)

jtprindl, coconut water sounds absolutely wonderful on my first day of breaking this fast. Thanks!

I have something called a "cystocele".[www.mayoclinic.org]

It's a female thing. It became very evident suddenly, although it was probably a little bit there for a while without my knowing it. I believe it was caused by straining too much with weights over a period of several years.

After this happened, I quit the weights completely; but it still gets bad after eating. By fasting with water only, I'm hoping to make everything smaller and reverse the damage. Of course, I'll have to make some lifestyle changes too: Smaller, more frequent meals, and much easier on the weights.

Ouch, Suncloud. Weights got me, too, but with a small hernia. Fasting really helped a lot with that and I have no more pain from it. I'm going with more crunches and sit ups - before I eat. Silica, too.

Oh SueZ, sorry to hear you had that hernia! I'm glad to know that fasting helped you, and you're no longer in pain. Right now, it seems to be helping me too, but I won't know for sure until I start eating again.

I hear you about exercising before eating. Or at least not on a full stomach (Guilty!). For upper body strength, I think I'll try to do more sun salutations instead of lifting weights. I'm pretty regular on yoga. And I'll try to walk a lot.

Day 5 on my fast! Yesterday I felt pretty awful, but I'm feeling much better today.

Why's that?

Typically, on a water fast, people tend to lose over a pound/day at the beginning and then taper down to about a pound/day. I'm small already, so I've lost close to a pound/day starting from the first day.

Well, day 6. I feel good today!

Yesterday afternoon was difficult because I had major backaches when lying down, and felt nauseous when sitting or standing up. The backaches finally went away after lying on my back on a flat surface. And today I feel good!

Day 7. Last day!

Yesterday I felt very good all day, and I feel even better today. And tomorrow I will eat! Not much though I hope. My husband is in town today, and if there are coconuts at the farmers market, he will bring some home. I thought jtprindl's idea of coconut water was excellent, and it's about the only thing I can think of that I'd really like to have. Of course, it will be hard to resist the spoon meat, considering the coconuts will most likely be young.

I could go for papaya or mango.

And for sure, if there were any available, I'd love to have a biriba (aka rollinia deliciosa). I think the season just passed though a couple of weeks ago. To die for. Tastes like maybe a combination lemon meringue and cherry pie filling.

glad to hear your propgress. Hope it worked for the better. That pic looks like a chirimoya (apple custard). They are one of my favorite fruits (expensive here).

Good call Panchito! Cherimoya and biriba are in the same family - annona - a species that also includes atemoya and ilama. Apparently there are "approximately 166 species" of annona.

Fast is over. I made it 7 days. Got my spoon meat coconuts - 15 of them! And even 3 biribas. Plus some rambutan and papayas. Tomorrow I'll shop for fresh greens.

Happy! I think the coconut water is perfect for my bladder, because it seems a little astringent. The bladder: so far, so good. And it's wonderful to be able to walk around without feeling like I'm about to fall over. smiling smiley

Thanks Panchito and Prana!

Just in case someone else tries fasting to heal a cystocele: unfortunately, it didn't work. I wasn't aware there are two kinds - one from stretch (a mild case), the other caused when the supporting fascia is torn. Once the fascia tears, it pulls apart and support is lost. Apparently this is what I have.

Maybe fasting would heal the first kind.

I'm considering my next step, and I have an appointment with a specialist to discuss options.

But I don't regret the fast at all, and I'm glad I tried it. I probably really needed it anyway, and I do feel really good!

Suncloud, I'm betting that adding more silica, even topically, will help with more connective tissue nourishment. I've just ordered some silica in liquid form( which has been extracted from bamboo) to add to magnesium oil for testing. I'm glad you're feeling better and don't forget to stay very hydrated!

Hmmm. It seems crunches are not all they are cracked up to be and stomach vacuums are the way to go...

according to this guy...

<<<It seems crunches are not all they are cracked up to be>>>

This guy was NOT talking about crunches - he was talking about situps.

When we do the traditional situp, we are mostly using the hip flexors because the abs have a very short range of motion, which is why we do crunches instead.

In other words, his explanation was right, but his terminology was wrong.

The most important abs we should work are the Transverse Abs. These muscles are wedged in between our pelvic girdle and they do not have a range of motion, so the only way to exercise them is isometrically. Isometric muscle contraction occurs when muscle shortening and joint movement does not occur. In other words, just suck in your abs as if you are trying to impress someone. Doing this will straighten your back, which gives us good posture. Most of us are lazy and don't do this, which accounts for so much lower back pain.
