hi love
yes, i have experience with amenorrhea. after i went off birth control pills (i took them for 10 years) i stopped getting a period naturally. i went on them when i was 14 because my doctor told me it would help with cramps. i never should have listened.
after about a year of not getting a cycle or ovulating, i finally went to a specialist who diagnosed me with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome. before i knew i had PCOS i went on a raw food diet to help with candida. i was on it for about 4 months and got a period each month. i haven't been able to go back to the diet so i've been taking medicine to bring on a period. however, it's been a horrible experience so i'm contemplating going back on the 100% raw foods.
hope this helps.

lotusblossom9, wow! So, raw foods healed your PCOS? How do you think you got PCOS? That is great! Do you mean, go back to the raw foods diet? What were you eating on the raw foods diet? Was it anything, or a special plan like low sugar or 80-10-10?

Thank you for your kindness!

hi love,

no, i did not cure my PCOS. when i was on a raw food diet (for the 4 months) i did get a monthly cycle each month. however i was not ovulating (we've been trying to conceive for almost 2 years) so i started to take ovulation drugs. i tried to continue to eat all raw but between the emotional rollercoaster of infertility and the hormonal craziness brought on by the drugs, i've been doing my best to just try to eat a healthy vegetarian diet with as much raw foods as possible. the trade off is that i have to bring on a period with medicine.

i know i'm not eating as well as i was when i was raw but mentally i was beating myself up...which under the stress i was already under, was becoming quite detrimental to my overall well-being. this might be viewed as "weak" on a bulletin like this, but i think that sometimes you have to honor where you are at in the moment and do the best you can. and that's what i'm trying to do.

when i was raw, i just ate anything as long as it was raw. i didn't follow any plan like the 80-10-10 diet but if i was to go back all raw again i'd probably try a low fat approach like 80/10/10. no one knows was causes PCOS, there are a lot of different theories.

lotusblossom9, Thank you! I don't know what a forum like this would think about your transitioning or way of eating. But my advice is to not be hard on yourself! Realize that you are trying and making great changes and taking better steps and choices everyday!

Why would you go low fat instead of eat anything raw? Just wondering.

Wow, even with a vegetarian diet, you still aren't regular? And raw has helped? That's great! Is PCOS just a period disorder or syndrome or something? With an unknown cause? Weird. Do you have any idea why you think you came down with it?

Thank you for your kindness!

I think that everyone here just wants to support each other. All of us have been through or are going through transitioning and we know it's not fast or easy.

We debate lots of topics but for me at least, it's a philosophical debate: I hate smoke but I don't hate smokers. We can't look at others who are where we used to be just recently and scorn them! Doesn't make sense. You extend a helping hand if you are a little or a lot ahead of someone who is where you want to go.

But this forum isn't for SUPPORTING non-vegan diets.....and when we do eat non-vegan foods, we refrain from making much about it. Personally I'm offended when someone here actively tries to promote eating non-vegan foods, because there are other forums where they can do that - but not here.

Because I have read on this board and on other sites that fats can slow down the detoxification process. And in my own experience I have found that it is harder to digest a lot of fat.

No.

Yes.

PCOS stands for Polycystic Ovary Syndrome. It is an endocrine disorder and one of the symptoms is irregular or no periods.

The cause is unknown. I personally think it is caused by xenoestrogens which are synthetic compounds that interfere with the endocrine system.

keep your chin up in trying to conceive smiling smiley the teacher i work for tried for 6 years to have a baby. she was getting desperate and heavily considering fertility drugs. she would go months and months without a period. one time she hadn`t had a period in months and she thought nothing of it because she was so used to being "not normal"...well her daughter is almost 2 years old now! she didn`t even know she was pregnant until the 5th month! so relax and have fun trying!

I don't get my period very often =/

I haven't had it since beginning raw, and only have had it twice since going vegan eight months ago.
Two pregnancy tests, and I'm not pregnant.

Amenorrhea can be treated by taking natural supplements and vitamins! Progesterone supplements are the most effective to be taking, as they are hormones found in the ovaries that promote proper functioning of the female reproductive system.
