Date: January 09, 2008 10:16PM I'm a little bit freaked out at the moment, and I'm hoping someone can clarify this for me... in a thermometer that contains mercury, the liquid will be silver, right? Would a thermometer with red liquid contain something else? (alcohol?)
There was a thermometer that broke a few days ago that JUST NOW came to my attention, and I'm worried about what's inside it o_O I'm searching the internet now, but if anyone could point me in the right direction, or even provide an answer, i would be VERY grateful. thanks. Re: broken thermometer!

"Mercury is a silver-white to gray substance. If your thermometer is filled with a red liquid, your thermometer contains red dyed alcohol or mineral spirits and not mercury. These are safer alternatives to mercury fever thermometers." Phew, sorry about this post... I was just in a total panic, haha Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
