Well, Ok, I don't want to freeze dry any ice cream but I wonder if this would work with berries and the like? I really love those crunchy strawberries you can sometimes buy. They aren't chewy like dehydrated food, they're light and airy and crispy and so much fun to eat!

I see so many Raw Leaders jumping off the 100% Raw food diet...stressing that its okay to eat some cooked vegan food. I wonder what the greater population feels like in regards to that. I think the benefits of eating purely a raw food diet is outstanding...on the other hand, I find socially raw foodies almost have to live in their own country because they are so caught up in the way they eat, they barely cannot mix with people who eat otherwise. What are your thoughts about this?

Hey, did anybody follow the discussions? Steve Prussack was the presenter, and I bought the 'VIP' thing so I could download the talks and listen to them whenever. Although I haven't listened to all of them yet, from what I have listened to there's alot of great info, with a little doubling up, but that's understandable. All in all it was successful in that it united like-minded people from all over our world, and we got to pick the minds of some prominate raw food people. The raw vegan food movement is alive and growing, and I look forward to more of the same.

For some of us, like me, it can be abit lonely in that compared with the general population, there's not many raw vegans in any given area. That's why I love the internet and forums such as this one. Anyway, any thoughts? Cheers :)

This is an excerpt from my book ‘CANCER IS NOT A DISEASE – IT’S A SURVIVAL MECHANISM’.

The fact that hairdressers have the highest rate of breast cancer of any profession prompted researchers to study the link between hair dye and cancer. A number of different studies found that women who use hair dye at least once a month are twice as likely to develop bladder cancer as those who do not. The risk triples when women use hair dye regularly for 15 or more years. These risks are the same regardless whether the women use permanent, semi-permanent, or rinse applications. The chemicals contained in commercial hair dye products penetrate the scalp and enter the blood stream. The kidneys filter them out and pass them into the urinary bladder where they damage the cells of the bladder, leading to repeated bladder infections and cell mutation.

Vegan and Raw Chef Certification Program
August 8 - 21
Learn how to create Peace in the Kitchen as Chef Skai guides you with this 14 day Intensive Culinary Vegan Chef Program. Fly down to luscious Puerto Rico and learn hands-on how to make healthy food with FLAVA! Chef Skai is a self-taught and fascinating teacher. Chef Skai created and opened the Yabba Pot Café in Baltimore, MD over 9 years ago and saw the yearning need to educate people on how to make healthier choices for their families. Her focus is to dismiss the notion that preparing vegan meals requires the eater to change their concept of flavors. Most non-vegetarians have said to her that if they could eat the way she prepared every day, they too would become a vegetarian. That is what a good chef wants to hear.

From a purely economic standpoint, there just happens to be more non-vegetarians in the world then otherwise. Wouldn’t it be smart to cater to all…not just the 1% vegetarian population? Chef Skai agrees that preparing food for a wider audience who understands the benefits of eating non-meat is good for business…and that would be one of the lessons she shares in her program. Educating participants in this course is yet another way to ensure the health of the world. The more Vegan and Raw food Chefs are out there in the world, the better this world will be. People, places, and the animals benefit from incorporating a vegan lifestyle into your environment. The goal of this program is to create an intensive program where chefs can get the information they need to start creating right away.

Many programs are very similar in quality but the reality is that many people do not have the time to take 6 weeks or even 3 months away from their regular routine. Chef Skai offers an intensive course where the chefs-in-training will be working hands on in the kitchen immediately as they arrive and will finish with their program as they are getting ready to leave. This hands-on education allows the participant to get it in. The lecture will be during the preparation of the dishes. Various techniques will be shared, ideas explored and international flavors realized. Join us on this fantastic exploration of wholesome cuisine. There will also some time to go to the beach, rainforest, and a lil bit of salsa dancing!!

Focusing on Vegan cooked as well as Raw food dishes your training vacation will include:
• Hands-On Training and Demonstrations
• Vegan Nutrition
• Farm Tours and Local Fruit Picking
• Vegan and Raw food Recipes
• Basic Knife Skills
• Sprouting
• Fermentation
• Dehydration
• Sauces and Dressings
• Cooked vs Raw
• Food Combining
• Double Occupancy Accommodations
And more!

OXALATES old topic new question (9 replies)

So, I know that people have had debates here concerning oxalate containing foods like most veggies ( spinach being the big hitter) and just about all other veggies, nuts etc. in some amounts. My question is this. I read an article somewhere ( it could have been a bogus article but it made me think nonetheless). In this article, someone blithely wrote that the oxalates in spinach is what prevents us from absorbing the iron in it. I thought " What?" Then, I thought to myself, this is a sloppy, irresponsible article because they don't mention percentages. Like what if only 50 % of the iron was not absorbed and the rest of it was available etc. So, then I thought to myself, okay, so what are the iron containing foods that do NOT contain oxalates and honestly, I feel like this is some weird labyrinth. It seems like ALL foods contain oxalates. Here is a list of those that do.

So, I recall a while back that Normal Walker ( the juice dude) stated that you don't have to worry about oxalates in raw juices ( like spinach). It was only the cooked stuff that harmed. But, still, no one seems to have any conclusive evidence and the camp is still divided.

Also, calcium inhibits iron absorption.

So, when I think of oxalates, I mostly think of spinach and parsley.

Then, when I saw this pdf file, I just thought " whatever ".... like, it was just over the top.

So, i guess my main question is this:

What foods do NOT contain oxalates that contain iron.

Also, I'm sure that SOME of the iron in oxalate containing foods is still absorbed, right?

So, I read a bunch of articles but most of them seemed to be extremely weak and inconclusive because no percentages were given or mcg, mg amounts of this and that and what was absorbed etc.

Then the calcium thing inhibiting iron is also a weird thing.

So, I guess my question to you is: other than saying " Cest la Vie", what are some excellent facts, figures, ideas that you could share with me, concerning this issue. I know i know... old issue that has been battered around but I never saw any answers that suited me.

thanks in advance

A good friend's girlfriend was diagnosed with this last year. She's only in her 20's :(.
They've radically changed their lifestyle and have tried many health remedies with limited success. I'll post a run down of what they're doing now but please, make any suggestions you've got. I would prefer to hear the things you KNOW for certain have worked for someone as she must remedy this quickly. The doctors would like to take out pieces of her body, she is resisting that and opting for healing instead.

*It's not on this list but B17 was something they tried for a while.

Currently juicing (Cabbage, celery, carrots, potato, beets) in the morning.

2 green smoothies per day (60% leafy greens with 40% fruits and berries -with approx. a teaspoon of Maca, Chlorella and Spirilina.)

2 anti-infamatory beverages with Turmeric, cinnamon, nutmeg, almond milk, cocnut flakes, vanilla or peppermint oil, chlorella and spirilina.

80-90% raw vegan diet.

Full body massage 3-4+ a week.

Hemp oil for pain relief and healing effects.

Coffee enemas once or twice a day.

Lots of rest

Yoga most days in the morning.

Lots of laughter and eliminating stress when ever possible.

Mercury fillings replaced.

TONNES of love every day.

Been to an energy healer (just today) as well.

Zinc & Raw Food (5 replies)

I see quite a few people including even some nutritionists recommending that for a raw food diet even around half the RDA for Zinc would suffice due to less phytates etc etc.

I don't really have time to write an article at the moment but thought i would post up to see what others views on this subject are. What most of these people are completely ignoring is how rich a vegan and often vegetarian diet is in the mineral Copper.

Copper is a zinc antagonist and can accumulate to toxic levels if a diet is low in Zinc as can other heavy metals. So people recommending half the RDA for Zinc in my opinion is dangerous with how rich many vegan foods are in Copper. I have suffered the wrath of Zinc deficiency and Copper toxicity and its no walk in the park. As soon as i started increasing my Zinc the detox from the Copper and other heavy metals was horrific, sometimes i would become very close to having a seizure it was so bad. Not counting the adrenal fatigue and numerous other health problems the above caused, zinc plays a major role in the production of adrenal hormones.

The main reason many raw fooders and raw nutritionists recommend such a low Zinc intake is because their diet often comes up low in Zinc on the cron o meter and they feel the above justifies why it is low. Sufficient levels of bioavailable minerals such as Zinc and Selenium are some of your first line defsenses against heavy metal poisoning.

Being that the best plant sources of Zinc happen to be Soy/Tofu, Beans/Legumes and some nuts/seeds such as peanut/pumpkin seeds, most of these foods which are low or absent in many raw diets it is something worthwhile to watch out for. When it comes to a vegan diet i would say the standard RDA suffices, maybe even possibly slightly extra Zinc could be beneficial due to how much bioavailable copper is in many plant foods.

Saponification creates heat! Anyone ever felt that during a liver flush? (no replies)

Some people wonder if liver flushes are myths. They think that what is happening is that saponification is fooling people into thinking that they are cleansing their liver of stones, when what actually is happening is that they are just saponifying the oil and lemon juice.

But, I've found interesting soap making sites that say that saponification both requires heat to get started, and also is a chemical reaction which creates heat!?!

Wonder where people got the idea that saponification could both occur at body temperature and not be felt by the cleanser as an increase in heat in certain areas?

From some soap making sites:

[candleandsoap.about.com]
"Definition: Saponification is an exothermic (gives off heat) chemical reaction that occurs when fats or oils (fatty acids) come into contact with lye (a base.)"

"Saponification generates heat and the total saponification of the batch of soap requires that it be cooled at a very slow rate."

"Saponification is an exothermic reaction, meaning it gives off heat forcing the soap to form a 'gel' before it cools."

"When the reaction starts, as saponification is an exothermic reaction, steam feeding can be reduced or completely eliminated."

This guy on curezone also had issues with saponification:

"hveragerthi has made two distinct assertions.

1) Liver Flush stones are caused by saponification of olive oil resulting in soap stones
2) liver flush stones are formed from a sterol/cholesterol complex with the cholesterol coming from bile

i will disprove both of these."

I just got one this week. I average 1-2 colds a year (usually 2). I take nothing for them, even herbs. I have done so in the past but found that they didn't make me feel better but actually slowed the detox. So I usually am flat on my back for at least two days, as this year.

It just seems like some people on SAD never get colds! But I heard that heroin addicts have perfect skin so perhaps some people are so toxic they can't get colds? And then when they finally get sick, it's something so far gone that it is very dire? I just don't know...Any thoughts?

Since we're well into the New Year, I feel it's time for me to do an intestinal cleanse. I've 'hit' on the idea of using Carrots. My Plan is to take a pound of carrots, and juice them....drinking the juice (about 8 ounces) and eating the pulp. Doing this a couple of times daily, for a week, or longer, should provide a good cleanse. Nothing else needs to be taken (except Water).
Why not just eat the carrots?...it's too much chewing for me......WY
P.S. Besides, carrot pulp from my Omega 4000 is very sweet, and palatable.
Any comments or ideas?
