that's very good advice. and we aren't actually going 100%. we'll continue to eat a few cooked foods while we transition. we're also not transitioning from a SAD. we've been vegan for three years, and it was plant-based in the truest sense of the word - not "junk food veg." we've eaten only unprocessed organic homemade food for most of that period. we're not going into this with d

as i said, i don't buy imported food except for bananas; i do, however, buy predominantly organic food. i notice a difference in my health, and definitely in taste, when i can't buy organic. since going vegan and cutting out processed food i feel very sensitive to pollutants. i know not everybody responds this way, and that's okay, but that's how i feel about it. i actually don't spend much m

okay everyone, i could really use some help with this one! this shopping trip will be the first one "raw." i ordered a lot of stuff from azure standard, a company that distributes bulk natural foods to buyer's clubs. from there i got nuts, dates, seeds, and so on. but tomorrow or the next day we'll be going to whole foods for our produce. we don't have a car. so when we go g

if you have the time, t. colin campbell wrote a book called "the china study" that discusses the origins of the obsession with protein in the US and debunks all of the myths about protein in our culture. it's a fascinating read. chandelle

i make sun tea. it's comfortingly warm right out of the carafe and i can make it with anything i want; i stick with herbal blends, primarily from herbs i've grown myself or bought fresh, and white tea. i use agave nectar as a sweetener. chandelle

thanks for that post, flex. very interesting. what is sad is that the government and researchers ARE coming around to realizing the medicinal benefits of cannabis. and as is their wont, they are doing as they always do and compartmentalizing the plant, patenting it and creating a synthetic pharmaceutical. as with most nutrients in foods and medicinal properties in plants, the WHOLE PLANT is

to me, whether global climate change and its presumed affects is actually occurring or not is irrelevant. what is relevant is the way we are treating the earth and what sort of planet we're leaving for our children and grandchildren. all of the issues that are attributed to causes of climate change are serious problems in an of themselves, regardless of whether climate change is truly occurring

the brain actually has neurotransmitter receptors specifically for the cannabinoids in cannabis. makes you wonder... anything can be abused. anything can be used as an escape method. and that includes a raw food diet, and anything else ostensibly positive. i think it's all about intention and purpose, and the ultimate goal we are seeking. chandelle

hi bunny, i've been reading tons of books and articles about detox and the consensus seems to be that the most severe symptoms generally last less than a month. it can vary a lot, though, depending on what you're eating, what your health is like and what your diet was like before. not looking forward to that myself! chandelle

hey everyone, i'm chandelle. i've been a whole-foods organic vegan for three years along with my partner, jeremy, and our two children who are 3 and 18 months. this diet has been wonderful for all of us! i'm studying to be a holistic nutritionist right now and my ultimate goal is to be a naturopathic doctor. my partner is a waldorf preschool teacher and we live a very gentle, holistic

just so there is no confusion, in my above statement i am referring to the clinical "loss of appetite" version of anorexia, which is a common side effect of many medications, chemotherapy, and so on - not forced starvation. raw1228, i hesitate to even respond to you, but i just wanted to mention that there are other ways to use this plant besides burning it. chandelle

ilovejen, i'm new to this site but i'd like to tackle this one based on my own experiences. take what you will! i've been a whole-foods organic vegan for 3 years; i'm studying to be a holistic nutritionist and in the long run i'd like to run a home-based naturopathic clinic, open to everyone regardless of income! that's my dream. i'm not raw yet, but i'm planning to transition within t

i didn't read all of the comments (wow, nasty! i'm new here, and i hope it's not always so negative...), so hopefully this isn't redundant. i just finished reading "raw food, real world" and it contains some information about pairing wine with raw food and also has quite a few raw-ish alcoholic concoctions in the back. i don't drink much myself, a little wine very occasionally, becau

i'm new, so i hope it's okay if i comment. i could be wrong, but as far as i know, rolled oats for oatmeal are NOT raw. they have to be steamed to be rolled and they're also often treated with enzyme inhibitors. oat groats, the whole oat that has not been rolled, are available raw. i've never made it myself, but it makes sense that if you soak them and then proceed as you would with m
