Ah, the great sugar debate. So, I've got a severe case of tonsillitis and can't eat and solids. Luck for me I <3 smoothies of all kinds (though, those still hurt like hell to swallow, too). I need things that are a little on the dense side in order to take the antibiotics I'm on-- I know, and entirely other issue but the infection is so intense I'm desperate. My doctor said nothing about

earthgirl, it's funny you mention perfume because i was just looking up ways to make my own. i will succeed!...(at some point) :-p i keep going back and forth so i'm going to hold off until i find a hair stylist who i really trust. i have lots of hair and don't want it going wrong- i like my current guy's cuts, but i don't know what kind of dye-jobs he does. i'll have to ask him if he has befo

MONA, that's crazy. I live in Malden, I'd love to! I wish that I'd already be in my new place, but I won't yet. I'll be in the moving process. We could always meen in Central and the Whole Foods, or we could go all the way out to Beverly, to The Organic Garden Cafe, but it's a bit of a ride if you're taking the MBTA.

I do like the brunette too, and I often think brunettes tend to actually look a lot better brunette. But I could use a change and blond seems so right for the summer and the raw 'thang. I want it to stay natural looking-- erm...less like cotton candy than it could- so I can dye it back to brown later. Though, I will say that your eyes must have been fabulous with blond hair, Kwan.

Coconutcream, it doesn't fit me to look very thin. I feel out of proportion and weak. I'm nearly 5'9...and it just doesn't sit look nice on me, I feel. However, I do realize that health comes first and if I felt that my calories were enough, I wouldn't be so concerned. Flex4life, I am so surprised you eat so little! I don't mean that in an offensive way, I'm impressed and it sets my mind at

Kwan, it's exactly the same place that Jgunn posted. I live in Malden right now, I'm moving to Dorchester in June and I used to live in Cambridge. In Central Square, actually. I just got home from the Whole Foods there. Bought some dates. :-O I posted an ad on Craigslist a few weeks ago, searching for raw food people in the area and I got 3 responses. I'm going to post again soon and we

EEEE!! I'm happy as can be. New England Organic Food. I bought 4 pounds of greens for less than half of what I was paying before. I haven't compared this to non-organic prices, but it has to be equal or even less. You have to buy everything in bulk but it's great if you're splitting. Plus, they even deliver. I was going nuts trrying to afford organic food, and I thought this might help oth

Being the majority surely isn't the point, when it comes to discussion. However, that majority sure is "silent." And invisible. And maybe they stepped out for coffee or something. Or hopped in a bus and moved to canada.

So, I know it's not super natural-seeming, but I'm thinking of going blond for the summer. I'm a brunette now. Do any of you dye your hair? What do you use?

Actually...about that. Question for The Frutitarian One and Flex4life: did you get in shape on raw? And how long have you been raw?

I do! Well, I'm thinking of throwing some cashews and banana in there, for good measure.

I've been using cacao because I was under the impression that it is good for me. I certainly don't even think it tastes that great- it takes the edge off the maca (oh, please tell me if that is supposed to be toxic, too), but it isn't anything special. I certainly wasn't craving chocolate after starting raw. But "high??" HUH??? What is this high effect you are feeling? ..it soun

I completely stole this idea! A professional photographer offered to do a project with me, free of charge, just for some fun. He asked if I had any ideas and I told him that I'd like to do some that resemble the "milk mustache" but with a green mustache. He said that we'd need to find something that would stick to my upper lip for a good amount of time (5 minutes) and he suggsted

I added the raw hemp protein to my morning smoothies and I might try eating more fruit. Because I feel a little better about having the extra cals, I'm going to get on the working out thing. You guys have a really good point about an increase in appetite happening because I'm working out, rather than visa versa. Jono, I warn you that you are about to get pounced on, or "reminded" t

Well, I don't think you should try not to eat many calories but if you're not hungry, don't! I'm not that experienced with raw, but I'm sure an appetite will come when you need the calories. More importnatly, it's such a waste to eat unrippened bananas, they tast so much better when they are ready!

In my morning smoothies I do stuff like banana, young coconut (either just the water or the whole thing) gogi berries, nuts, maca, flax, cacao...and whatever I have lying around that would be delictious with that. It varies, but I stick with fruit. I have a psychological block against veggies before noon...:-/

This is great, thanks you guys. I added hemp protein to my shopping list. I've been meaning to get it too, I just always forget! I have a similar obstacle, like a couple of people here, about not being very hungry on raw. Often, after my morning smoothie(I start eating around 10am so my body has a couple of hours to wake up), I'm not really hungry until about 4pm. It's weird. If I am hungr

Where do you guys get your calories from? I'd especially like to talk to anyone who works out and/or is just really active. I've lost wayyy more weight than I wanted to. I don't know what I weigh, but I'm wearing my size 3's that I have from when I was 16 (I'm 21) and they are getting too loose; I was a nine when I started gettin' healthier. I've heard a lot of people say they weight loss

I felt the same way when I first tried them a few weeks ago. They're getting better, though. I put them in my smoothies in the morning and I think they take the *blech* off of the maca root. I soaked them overnight in coconut water last week and I think they were the key to the best smoothie I've made yet. They also grow on you in salads. I toss a handfull of them in a spnach and avacado

I totally hear you! I'm in the exact same position and there really isn't any way around it, aside from killer time management. Any free second you have at home, prepare your stuff. I've gotten really fast at making incredibly energizing smoothies that I take with me for the commute; I like to let my body wake up before I make it digest and that allows me a little time after waking up to do just

*Nudges her way into the argument* This has nothing to do with what you're all fighting about and not a whole lot to do with bananas BUT: When I was on the SAD, I had this whole theory about how if I ate too many cupcakes I could have potato chips to fix my health. The logic was salt cancels out sugar. So I proceeded to torture my body lots and lots because of it. Looking back on it though

Funky Rob, I had a real life "lol" when I read your comment, onnnly because you stated what I was thinking in a much more blunt way than I would have even considered. Humans stop producing lactase at the age of 5, before that we can't chew..so we must drink liquids. We grow teeth, our throat tubes become strong, and we are able to eat whole foods!! Then we stop producing lactase and

Ahh yes, the eating disorder thing. I've been getting some of that. It's kind of okay by me, because that isn't the case-- I get mostly frustrated when I try to explain it to people and they cannot look beyond what they have learned about nutrition in the past. Protein is a big concern for them-- and it's a concernt for me too but I'm open to learning new things! I do think that was the cou

I spend LOTS more time preparing my food now that I eat raw. I mean...no complaints or anything- it was due time I started thinking about what was going into my body. Perhaps it's all part of the learning process... I'm a full-time student and I work, My days start before sunrise and end around 9pm. On campus, there is very, very little raw food and virtually no raw+organic food. Not eating

I really want to start swimming but I'm hesitant to soak in chlorine for hours on end, every week. There aren't any salt-water pools in my area. Do any of you swim and what is your opinion on swimming in chlorine?

I have like, two scars on my face that haven't gone away since I've been including lots of raw food into my diet. But it's only been a month and I know I haven't detoxed too, too much. I don't think they've changed, but honestly I haven't been watching. I use topical products that have helped a lot, and I hope to be able to stop using them over the summer. My best guess would be to detox a

Kit: I made this post almost exactly a month ago and it's been working great. I'm not 100% yet, but my lifestyle is a 180 since the previous months. Now, my "unhealthy" foods are usually brown rice and beans, which I JUST stopped eating together because I realized how difficult it is to digest. I'm sure I still have lots to learn, but I feel really good. I eat cooked food when I g

You guys are awesome. I knew there were wheatgrass lover out there! I think the best thing to do, is just keep experimenting for a little while, I could use the exra detox, I'm sure. Plus, I like ordering my juice and then saying, "and I'll have a shot of wheatgrass." It's post-starbucks sydrome, perhaps.

I had wine for the first time in 1 months, I think I've been doing raw for about a month, and the same thing happened to me. 2 glasses and I felt really sick. I didn't drink it too much before, though I did love it. One glass at a time. Cab being my fav of favs. I may or may not have a red wine allergy. Lots of sulfites can make you nauseous like that. But alas! Like the old-fashioned docto
