quoting annie27: "I also believe we are only as victimized as we feel we are. No one outside of an institution is forced to eat SAD. Many people on tiny budgets eat healthily and cheaply using their smarts and intuition to guide them and its been this way forever." It may be true that many people eat healthily, SAD healthy or raw healthy, on a small budget, but I would argue that

I started getting interested in raw food because of weight loss, and I agree with earth angel--weight loss is a health issue, both physically and mentally. I do not feel feel defficient for trying to eat more raw for weight related issues. For me, I have tried to make eating raw feel like an addition to my diet rather than a subtraction (Like I CAN eat all the fruit I want rather than I can on

Hey y'all-Thanks so far for responding. David, I really appreciated the idea of not only growing your own but providing for others. I checked out your website btw and your weekend retreats look like an amazing way of putting your theories into action. I am planning on trying to grow some food on my fire escape and possibly roof this summer (I would love to grow my own tomatos). And, after pos

I have been spending more time since I upped my raw intake (I spend around 1-2 hours daily in the kitchen). but that's because I enjoy preparing foods. I haven't started sprouting/dehydrating--It's just making specialty dishes using the raw fruits and veggies. But, that's by choice.

So, I started talking about this on another thread, but I was hoping to get a larger discussion going. So... I am starting this thread to hopefully learn some things and also to get people thinking. I am not trying to attack anyone or their lifestyle, honestly. The whole concept of food justice is new to me. I have done some reading on it in the past, Vandana Shiva Stolen Harvest, and have done

Happy Pesach! I saw this thread and it seemed ironic to me at first. Since I am trying to eat more raw I am finding that I am having less trouble than ever eating this Passover--or at least, not living off of matzah and eggs ;-) But for a traditional meal...I haven't tried this, but maybe you could make some sort of raw tzimmes? I have been googling some tzimmmes recipes for my own info--maybe

Hey- Glad to see there's so many self-defined nerds on this thread; what can I say, books are my kryptonite. Thanks for everyone who responded to my social justice comment. Is there a coinciding movement w/in the raw food movement to work on social justice for the people involved in producing the food we eat? Does anyone else have any ideas? Should I move this conversation to a seperate thread?

I don't know much about pick-ur own aroung the worlds but you can Woof (not sure if I am spelling the anacronym correctly). You can work on organic farms around the world, living there/eating there for free. When I was in Australia it was really big down there.

Hey-- So, I was a rebelious eater. In my case, my mother wanted to control what I ate so I stayed thin (something that had been ingrained in her by my grandmother). I used to overeat, ALOT (like 5 slices of pizza with a huge amount of coke, not a big deal-I could eat the whole pie). At the time, I thought I was just eating the way I wanted but in retrospect I was eating to be rebellious against m

Hey-So, I probably eat only 70-80% raw, most days (I am not trying to go 100% raw, but am trying to incorporate more into my diet). I have found sweet fuits fill me up, like papaya (I made a papaya and grapefruit salad), grapes. At the end of a big meal, I will soemtimes top the tank with some baby carrots--maybe the crunchiness of them helps, I don't know. Since you are not 100% raw either (thou

Alright, I'll bite My name is Kate and I am 23, 24 in two weeks. I work as an electrician for theatre (as I write this I am running the light board for a show in NYC). I play the drums and am a self-identified nerd (I love to read). I am currently studying for the LSATs because I want to go to school to study international human rights law. I got interested in raw food because I was looking thr

Hey, I just wanted to say keep on trucking. I agree with the posts that tell you to be selfish; do what you think is best, it probably is. Raw food, medical doctors, meditation...don't make yourself do anything. Look, I don't know you, so I don't know who you are inside, but I know when I was near that bottom I would ask people for advice so I wouldn't have to do anything myself...it was like,

If you go mono to detox, like on grapefruits, quite frankly do you nee to be able to go to the bathroom frequently, like on a lemonade cleanse? I am curious about cleanses, but my job would not make it feasible to have to run out a lot~Kate

Hey- So, I am new to all of this stuff. I have been reading your posts and have a couple of questions: So, in all of my raw food research, this high fruit diet intrigues me the most because I have always loved and gorged on fruit, but have been told that eating too much of it is not healthy because fruit is high in sugar. One of the main reasons that I am researching this is that over the last y

Hey- Thanks for some info. Anaken, where do you but things cheaply? I belong to the Park Slope coop, and even their organic stuff is a little too pricey for me. I am willing to travel for cheaper, oranic, food. I already dtopped drinking when I go out to save cash, I didn't like the taste of alcohol that much so it wasn't much of a loss. Anyway, any tips would be great. Thanks!~Kate

Hey- So I am researching the raw diet because I am trying to eat healthier and lose 30-50 lbs. I don't plan on going 100% raw, but would like to incorporate more raw food into my diet. Anyway, I have been looking at recipes and machines and everything seems rather expensive (like specialty food items, dehydrator). I live in NYC in an apartment, so a garden is not possible and fruit and veggies ar
