Wishes of love and health to your brother in law and all connected to this situation, brokenbrooke. Cancer is a devestating blow to far too many people, and as Storm said in one the video interview with his brother, it is considered "normal" by many because it is so common. I just want to clarify that Kris Carr is not "in remission," a term which suggests that the cancerou

fresh said: "this would be better examined with respect to the social and economic context. race is not necessary. " In my opinion, race is social (and economic). Race influences the social and economic positions of a majority of American citizens, in what I consider to be a drastic way, and has for many centuries. In fact, I believe that the concept of race was CREATED as a way

fresh said: "it makes us better people to consider us all as members of the human race and stop trying to use race to "inform" us of matters which do not require it." I agree that, at the deepest level, it makes us better and more HUMAN to look at one another as simply human brothers and sisters. However, I feel that it is possible to understand our shared humanity at

fresh said: "that is truly bizarre to me. you college kids are overthinking. imo" You can never think too much, in my opinion. It is bizarre to you, I understand. To some people, the concept of eating only raw foods is bizarre. Everything's bizarre to someone, I guess. I think that in some ways it is a preconceived and uninformed idea, but I do believe that it is definitel

Nope... I guess I'm European-American, hehe. Half of my family is from Sweden (many generations back) and the other half is from Wales and Germany.

I agree that it's obvious SOME non-white people have just as much access as anybody else. However, I do think that looking at overall demographics would be very helpful, because that would show us just how MANY non-white people have access, as compared to white people. My hypothesis is that minorites overall do not have as much access, although, once again, it's obvious that it is not impossible.

Peisinoe... hehe... of course! I think that I just get so focused on making my point that maybe the opposite thing happens! Silly me. Let's see... I am not talking about "inherent" or genetic differences in people based on their skin color. I am instead talking about the CONCEPT of race, which has been around in the USA for a very long time. I call it the "social construction&qu

Without the internet, I'd probably still be thinking that an incinerated veg casserole was great for my health." This paragraph caught my eye, and I

fresh, you said: "if someone perceives a problem and they want to do something about it, they could address those PEOPLE who they feel need help." I feel that, if the racism of the mainstream American culture informs subcultures and movements such as the raw community (which I believe it does), then everybody in the community (including me, of course!) needs some kind of "help,&

Hi, plastic. First, I'd like to address the issue of a certain hostility which I feel from your posts. I am open to your opinions and insight, and I sincerely thank you. However, I do not understand why it is necessary to "speak down" (for example, calling me "sweetheart," which I perceive to be condescending) to me in order to offer those opinions and insights. Again, tha

Perhaps it would be better. But the fact is that we (as a whole) are not, and have never been, and that reality has far-reaching consequences. In my opinion, talking about seeing the world through "colorblind" eyes tends to be a method for those who have never been forced to realize the impact of race and racism (read: many white people ) to continue, as the term implies, being "bl

Thanks to all for the information and pointers. rawfrancois said: "what is the point of this? why is race being brought into it?" I do not see myself as simply "bringing race into it," because in my opinion race and the racial history of the USA already affects virtually every aspect of life. Rather, I consider myself as trying to understand the impact of racial history

I'd just like to add that I understand this country is populated in majority by European-American people (though that may not always be the case!) and I am referring to percentages representative of the overall population when I talk about the perceived "lack" of non-white people.

Halloooo all :O) My name's Kelsey and I come here for some information which I think you bright and lovely people may be able to offer me. I personally am interested in both personal and world health as well as a variety of social issues, and I think that these two things interlock in many ways. I've noticed a bit of a trend in the "health nut" world (from vegetarian to vegan to raw
