I also live in Florida, in the south, and it's too hot to grow anything here from May to October. We do our best growing in the winter. Everytime I tried doing a backyard garden, I was lucky to keep 1/3 of the crop. Birds, bugs and diseases got the rest. Ah, but that remaining 1/3 was TOTALLY KICK! I grew the best arugula, parsnips, tomatoes, radishes and turnips ever! And citrus, well, jus

I don't know about the hair loss-protein connection, but I am convinced there is a connection to insufficient fats, especially Omega 3 fatty acids. I take evening primrose oil daily-it contains GLA and is an Omega 3 source. This has helped with hair loss due to medication. I get about 50-70 or so grams of protein daily from plant sources, nutritional yeast and goat whey. Kale is one of my

How often have you heard, or said this: "Listen to your body". It almost sounds magical/mysterious for people new to alternative nutrition, such as the living/raw foods lifestyle. I used to think my yoga teacher was exaggerating when she said it until I one day KNEW what she was referring to, and it just made sense. Same with nutrition - people just sometimes fail to trust their ins

This subject always fascinated me. Let me give you an example: research I've found states that the proper proportion of Calcium to Phosphorus is 2.6 : 1. Calcium to Potassium ideally is 4.2 : 1 Sodium to Magnesium is 4 : 1 Calcium to Magnesium is 7.1 : 1 OK, that's all well and good. My daily consumption of mostly raw veggies and fruits gives me some conflicting information. For

I'm into living foods because of my health. That said, my son (who listens to my babbling when I've discovered some new item pointing to the benefits of this particular lifestyle) pointed out that "Life feeds on life". I thought that was so profound. He mentioned he just paraphrased something he read...somewhere. After a year of mostly raw, I've come to find that for me personally

Hi Rawdev, go to the reports section, and see your Nutrition for the day. That gives you the breakdown. You and I are similar in our percentages. Some days I have more or less fats, but my protein is around 15% daily. It is a very helpful tool for me. Hope it works as well for you, too!

Hmmm...so his cholesterol and triglycerides went UP tremendously after juicing? In my personal experience, juicing and raw foods knocked my relatively high cholesterol and pretty high triglycerides DOWN in only 24 days. Also down (to normal levels) went my LDL and unfortunately my HDL. I don't understand, but perhaps you will find an answer and post it here for us. Thanks!

Well, just my two cents: I believe you can't get too many greens. I will also add that variety in everything food-wise is necessary to get a balanced diet. So, I eat a variety of greens. I eat a variety of fruits, other veggies, nuts, sprouted grains...you see where I'm going with this. And because I eat a large variety of foods, I don't eat JUST greens, it makes the greens section of

I've had the same concerns: where will I find the time to do what I need to do for myself? I use the weekends and three day weekends for juice fasting. I don't interfere with anyone's lifestyle, I get to relax and juice what I want, when I want. I feel wonderful, and look forward to the next weekend to do it again. Stress free juice fasting! Maybe this can work for you too! Or, as an

I used to get leg cramps before going raw, and used magnesium supplements to get rid of the problem. I get plenty of magnesium now in my raw diet, so I don't need the supplements and I don't get the leg cramps either. You may want to try using fitday.com to enter in your foods, and see how much of the minerals you're getting daily. You may be surprised to find some deficiencies. I know I ne

I buy brazil nuts, Red Star Nutritional Yeast - Vegan Blend, organic dried mission figs, pumpkin seeds in bulk from bulkfoods.com. I recommend them for great products, quick shipping and they don't charge high shipping costs. In my opinion, fresh fruits and veggies, purchased in bulk, is not a good idea. Unless you're dehydrating them and making raw food that looks like cooked food, as som

I was losing hair due to thyroid medication. A LOT of hair loss, handfulls daily. Changed meds, and it slowed down a lot. But it didn't cease. After doing some research, I also started taking evening primrose oil capsules daily (for the GLA and omega 3 benefit) and that was the key to stopping hair loss for me. I added fish oil capsules, too, to keep up my HDL which dropped like a stone while
