My daughter went out of town last weekend, and phoned me to say she was adopting a puppy. Of course, I said ABSOLUTELY NOT - DON'T YOU EVEN THINK ABOUT IT. But luckily, she ignored me completely, and brought her home. Now I can't stop playing with the new puppy, so sweet and wonderful. Don't have a name yet. She is so tiny that when she steals food from my big doggie, she fits right into h

One of my hardest things to get used to was figuring out what to make myself to eat without things getting boring. (after a while, I started to like "boring", mono-meals (like just eating watermelon and nothing else), but not at first.) So try this and see if you like it. There is a whole website of recipes, some totally raw, some mostly raw, but nearly all of them have pictures, a

I am very impressed by how good you are at sticking with your yoga even when it gets very uncomfortable. How long have you been doing Bikram Elakti? Are there some people in your group who are big inspirations with their experiences of healing? Hope you hear about that job soon!

Glad to hear you are getting back on track Pam. And you are totally doing the right thing when you find ways to exercise. I am sure I have heard that one of the most effective treatments for depression is exercise, although I bet the drug companies wouldn't want you to know that, ha ha!! Just don't forget your goal and you will keep yourself moving in the right direction!

Ouch, my lower back is so sore - it hurts when I shift my weight onto my right foot. I don't know what I have done. I am leaving to go out of town to visit my sister tomorrow, so I am not happy about this pain. I don't know how much I will work out for the next ten days that I am gone, but I plan to take my yoga tape with me. (She also works out to the Wii, so I am looking forward to try that

I think that's perfectly normal. I found a lot of vitamix recipes were pretty strange at first - it's quite different than juicing. (I got mine about 12 years ago, and I sure hope they have improved their recipe booklet, it was awful!) As for the greens, you are right, at first, take it easy on the greens, and start with more fruit. I really like peaches or mangoes or oranges. I usually inc

My daughter won her pageant last night - YAY !!! She will get some scholarship money for her university studies, so that will be wonderful, and she won a whole lot of prizes that we didn't expect, that wil be a lot of fun for her to use. What an exciting evening! My working out is going really well. I am enjoying my morning yoga, and things are getting to be a good routine at the gym. One

I think the China Study has a lot of scientific stuff in it, might find something useful there, if he can get a copy? I haven't read it yet, so maybe someone who has might be able to elaborate?

Good joke Elakti. It's great that you are doing so well at sticking with the Bikram - how long have you been doing that altogether? I only lasted a couple of months. Hope you are making progress at getting off the cooked foods - I find for me that once I start "cheating", it's hard to stop. It really is like an addiction! And when I stay away from it, I feel so much better. I s

Hi Pam: Hope all is well for you. I went to Tanya's website and read up about that book - it looks like a really good book. One of these days, I am sure I will get my hands on a copy. Have a terrific day!

My yoga is progressing nicely. I can see I will need something a little more challenging soon, and I am nowhere near as flexible as I remember being when I was younger, but things are improving a little at a time. The best part, is that I seem to have woken up a memory of how strong and flexible I used to be - I even had a dream about that one night. It felt so good. Last night after dragon

Hi coco: A cheap alternative is to go to a paint store and ask for some paint straining bags (I think that's what they are called). They work excellent, and cost hardly anything. But I can't say how durable they are, I don't use mine very often. I think they were less than $ 1.00 each. Before I discovered this, I asked at my health food store if they carried nut milk bags, and they looke

A few years ago I had a Quantum Biofeedback reading and one of the results was that my body needed to eat apple seeds. I think that is interesting, because one of the first things the operator asked me was whether I had ever been tested for cancer (this was two years after I completed my cancer treatments, so I don't know how she could have known, my hair was grown back, and I looked pretty norm

Got back on track yesterday. Well, I wasn't really off track all that much, I did miss one day of yoga on Saturday morning because my back was sore, and I didn't go to the gym on Saturday or Sunday for the same reason. So yesterday, I did my yoga in the morning, and went to the gym last thing after I was done all my rushing around for the day. I am so much looking forward to looking and feelin

That's a very good point annex (at least for what was wrong with me - riverhouse bill seems to be a different story). The truth is, for years, every time I went to the hygenist, they told me I needed to start flossing and it would solve the problem. But the truth was, I WAS flossing - every single day. And it would make my mouth bleed. I would eat an apple, and it would make my mouth bleed.

Hey Pam! Keep up the great work. I bet if you stay focussed on your goals and keeping raw, over time, that depression thing will just finally start to fade away. Do you have a friend you like to visit or who you like to have come for a visit? I find a lot of time, just spending time with people who I really like a lot lifts my spirits. That quantum eating thing sounds interesting. I have

Ouch, I hurt my back on Friday. I am not sure how, must have been overdoing it at the gym, but I don't remember anything that felt overly strenuous. Feeling better today, but was quite uncomfortable on Saturday and Sunday. I did my yoga on Sunday, but haven't been back to the gym. Better to let things heal first. Tonight my (youngest) daughter is doing a big speech for a pageant she is in.

I don't know if this will help you, but I had unhealthy gums for years - not the same problem as you, but my gums used to be very sensitive and bleed easily. When I was diagnosed with cancer a few years ago, my naturopath recommended that I start using a product called "Cellfood" - you just put a few drops into water or juice a few times a day. I wasn't even thinking about my gums a

Hi Pam ..................KICK................. (hope that helps, hee, hee!!) Elakti, and everyone, thanks for the support. The diary really does help keep me motivated, why haven't I done this before? Yesterday, I did my morning yoga, then buzzed around the house trying to get things done until a friend stopped by with her three kids. Then, once my kids got home from school, things r

Hi Elakti, Welcome back, glad to hear you are doing ok. I am sure this setback is very disappointing to you, but at least you proved to yourself that you can do it. Now it is just a matter of keeping it all going. I am sure I quit smoking 40 times before I finally got it right, so don't give up. You can and you will do this if you can just remember to keep working on it. It's such a jo

Hi Annbou, I don't know if you have access to a dehydrator, but you can make some fabulous dried crackers and stuff if you have one, and they are a great transitional food to get your mind off breads. I know it's not really the same, but it's a lot closer than a banana, haha!! I don't eat as many crackers as I used to, but I really love them once in a while. I am not sure of there are too

Hmmmmm....... I wonder if I will ever get to a point where sore muscles feel good to me, haha!! But seriously Annbou, I know what you mean. Years ago I used to work out, and I really felt great. And it seemed that sometimes the more I pushed myself, the more I wanted to push myself. I am very much looking forward to getting back to that. Sadly, I have used my low energy levels as an excu

I totally agree with raw1228. Say the right things, be perfectly polite. If she does anything out of line, allow her to be the one to look bad, and just continue to be calm and nice. (and walk away if you need to) I wouldn't go overboard with kindness, but keep everything on a very even level. If anyone is going to act like a big jerk this weekend, let it be her. I am curious about one t

Hi Pam, I am so sorry to hear you are feeling down. Is there something specific that is making you feel so sad, or is it just things in general? I think it is quite common for us to have an "emotional detox" when we go raw, in fact (for me, anyway) I think it is those emotions that have caused me to slip up so many times in the past. Cooked food really does seem to suppress all th
