Instead of taxing, I think a better solution would be to remove farm subsidies so that fast food wouldn't turn out to be so "cheap" after all, letting the free market determine the prices of different foods. This way people are less taxed, can spend their extra money as they see fit, junk food is not as cheap, and the market isn't distorted in favour of these processed foods.

122. Re: The God Delusion
Hey wong,
Sorry about the delay in replying, I've been meaning to get back to this thread for a while. You're right when you say that we are incapable of seeing most of the matter of the Universe with our own eyes. Our eyes are only sensitive to a narrow range of the electromagnetic spectrum, namely those wavelengths which, due to their utility on this planet, we have evolved to appreciate. S

123. Re: Genesis 1:29
Hey ltf, nice to have you back. I think your point is well made, so in the same sense that there is not much that studying your dog can say about me, there is not much that studying the bible (Torah, Koran, etc..) can say about the existence of A spiritual power. What studying the bible (Torah, Koran, etc..) can tell you is a lot about the non-existence of a PARTICULAR spiritual power, the one th

Interesting article I read recently. Tentative explanation of how the fusion of white blood cells with tumours can help explain metastasis, or the spread of the tumours. If tumours were somehow supplemental detox/storage organs, then this cooperation with the body's immune system would make sense too.

QuoteThe God of the Old Testament is arguably the most unpleasant character in all of fiction. Jealous and proud of it; a petty, unjust unforgiving control-freak; a vindictive, bloodthirsty ethnic-cleanser; a misogynistic homophobic racist, infanticidal, genocidal, filicidal, pestilential, megalomaniacal….

<<But it is not out of bounds to point out that the modern times articulator of evolution ( evolution has been believed throughout time, in various forms), Darwin himself, accepted eugenics.>>
When you make assertions like this you should at least provide some evidence. Do you have any?

QuoteMore so than in any other area of human behavior, the world of politics is firmly and irretrievably grounded in contradictions and illusions. If you were to ask others to identify the purposes for which governments were created, you would likely get the response: "to protect our lives, liberty, and property from both domestic and foreign threats." Hey David,
Hope you are well and well done on the blood test I suppose
It would be interesting if you had the results of some blood tests before you went raw, since if I remember right I think you said you had high blood pressure and borderline heart problems then.

As usual the justification for these kinds of things is "technical" reasons: in this case they claim there "aren't enough" human eggs to go around and also it's "easier" to extract animal eggs.
I agree that of their supposed goal of learning about certain chronic diseases they will learn very little if anything with this approach.

Human noses 'can detect danger'
Our noses can quickly learn to link even subtle changes in smell with danger, claim scientists.
Volunteers who could not differentiate between two similar smells found they could do it easily after being given a mild electric shock alongside one.
Brain scans confirmed the change in the "smelling" part of the brain.
