Yeah, frances, I should find a store that sells nuts in bulk bins so I can use my own container, instead of buying the prepackaged nuts every few days. I wish there were a store that sold strawberries and blueberries in the same way, to avoid the waste, but I don't think I'll find any. I might just have to 'get off of' berries until they show up at the farmer's markets because from what I can

Hi I'd be interested to hear if anyone takes any measures to reduce the amount of garbage that their diet (or any other part of their lives) generates. Using a reusable shopping bag and reusing plastic produce bags is not an uncommon practice, but I'm wondering if anyone has adopted a more formal approach to reducing their waste (for example, not buying any food that comes with more than a st

I'm a student and I work about 20 hours a week, so I do most of my eating away from home. Does anyone have tips on how to keep lettuce from spoiling despite sitting in my backpack, which I often use as a pillow and which gets lots of direct sunlight? I'd prefer something simple, with minimum waste produced.

Hey, TL, all opinions are welcomed. I thought about the recorder, but stringed instruments like the guitar and ukulele seem more conducive to playing while hanging out with a group of friends. I don't know whether I would do that or not, though. I guess I should think more about what I want to get out of the instrument and how/where/why/what I'd like to play.

One thing I like about the raw food lifestyle is how simple it can be. Simplicity is something I try to extend to the other areas of my life, as well. In the past few years, I've been interested in trying to learn a musical instrument, but this comes in conflict with my desire for simplicity. So I was hoping you all could give me some suggestions on simple musical instruments. By "simp

<peeks head in> Hey everyone. I'm a little reluctant to post in here because I've never been given a professional diagnosis of an eating disorder, or experienced any severe consequences (hospitalization, psychiatric treatment, etc) that I typically associate with bona fide eating disorders. However, after examining some of my past (and, especially, recent) interactions with food, I t

Ha, funny you posted today, Rachel. Maybe it's my slightly contrarian attitude, but I didn't stay raw after my original post. I've been eating major junk the past few days. I did, however, want to use this weekend to 'reboot,' so today I've been sleeping a lot and trying to keeping my mind busy, as well as fasting. We'll see what tomorrow holds, but I'd like to stay raw--my best motivation ri

"Are you suffering from ‘raw food information’ overload? Have you eaten more cooked food than you intended to recently?" Yeah, that's me. I haven't eaten all day (been sleeping, mostly), then remembered this post about an hour ago, and figured I'd go all the way. I've been eating a ton of junk food the past few days, and I wanted to use the weekend to 'reboot.' So far, s

arugula, I believe the sensitivity to the sun arises only if you consume the greens of sprouted buckwheat. Also, I think they taste fine.

From the info on nutritiondata.com, it looks raw buckwheat groats get about 80% of their calories from carbs, 10% from protein, and 10% from fat (give or take a few percentage points). Throw in a head of lettuce, and you've got your pound of greens without affecting the carb/protein/fat levels much. For those who are familiar with Doug Graham's 80/10/10 system, what do you think of all this?

Hi everyone My name's Mike. I have been interested in the raw food diet for about a month now--in particular, the basic nature of the diet. In most things, I try to behave as fundamentally human as possible, and I think that the raw food diet fits the bill when it comes to eating. Of course, there are other benefits, too. To sum things up, the last month has not been a good one for me.
