Its more difficult for me, I love baby spinach in smoothies and salads, and I could eat raw beetroot salads 3 times a day its so tasty. But because of these stupid oxalates, I have to limit myself

I think cravings and hunger are very different things; one can have a craving for a particular food but actually not be hungry at all. Eating too much food few years ago is what brought me to raw diet actually. And at the time, I also tried the solution which for the most part worked very well. I found one of the most plain tasting but fairly nutritious food: soaked rolled oats, a food that

It is believed that baby spinach contains less oxalate, luckily this is the type routinely sold in shops here so this is what we eat. I do try and limit to one significant source of oxalate daily; e.g. if spinach is on the menu today then I would avoid beetroot and parsley, etc.

Reviving an old thread... It's been couple of years, what is the consensus now, the best dehydrator? In particular I'm thinking about Excalibur 10 tray stainless steel: EXC10EL Its pricing aside, the appealing features are SS construction inside and out, controls on the front (so it can be placed in an open kitchen cupboard), lovely glass doors. And overall it looks fairly nice. But the p

They are bland tasting, even more disappointing as you normally expect more looking at the bright colours of the fruit.

Well as I said in the first post I don't care too much whether tomatoes are being cooked or not, as i believe they are very beneficial either way. The reason I thought about flash pasteurization, is because the longer the food is cooked the more its taste can be affected, since there are more opportunities for various chemical reactions. Or so it seems to me anyway, intuition.

Recently I thought that with raw food diet, of all electrical appliances the two I found most invaluable are a good food processor and a freezer. If all is good and next year we move to a new house I'm going to buy the best the biggest and most efficient freezer there is

I like getting rid of stuff, and sometimes find myself in situation when i suddenly need the thing i thought i wouldn't lol. When I decided to become raw everything which didn't apply went to friends immediately - cook books, rice maker, canned tuna, hot chocolate powder, some pots and pans and so on. Felt great!

Thanks Tamukha for the idea on passata mill, i'll definitely look it up. Funny as we lived in Italy for long time, but at the time I never wondered about how many things were made! Edit: the italian word for passata mill is "il passaverdura" - i think i'm gonna get one

That's what it seems to me too, like it is cooked but only perhaps for a short time (like flash pasteurizing or similar). About the sauce I think vitamix is probably not a very good idea. My mom makes raw tomato juice by using an auger device (its not really a juicer but part of the food processor) - it comes out really good.

The good ones are expensive, but they are worth it The one I bought is a compromise: it is made by very good and reliable manufacturer, but is a smaller version and for that reason moderately priced. It's this one:

I eat quinoa and buckwheat raw, when sprouted they are yummy and often invaluable in recipes plain as well as dehydrated. Btw both are gluten-free (though for some types of quinoa this might be questionable).

For generations our family have been using simple glass jars for making sauerkraut - it is so dead easy Glass jar, a small press for first couple of days (often a clean glass filled with water), cheesecloth or any loose lid to cover, and quiet warm place to ferment. It is ready in about a week, but i think if people want more bacteria it is suggested to keep the kraut fermenting for longer.

Food processor is definitely a good idea. Personally i found it invaluable - it is the most used appliance in our household, even more often than the blender.

It is great with beetroot, carrot, avocado, some seaweed flakes, some romaine lettuce, some onions or broccoli or radish sprouts for kick, and anything else you want to add on top (such as tomato and/or cucumber etc). Everything is chopped/grated and mixed. Basically the idea is to replicate a Russian salad called Vinaigrette, only raw.

This is probably the question to UK or other european board members, as I'm not sure if passata is even the word in the US.. In UK we have a good variety of passata, lots of organic, both UK made and Italy imported, plain, with salt, with basil, with basil and salt... Strictly speaking the difference between tomato sauce and passata should be that passata is supposed to be made with raw

It is largely a myth that RO water leaches anything from the body. I have to run to catch a plane now, but if you google it up you can find explanation actually both sides of the debate, so you can make up your own mind.

I wake up early as well, and proper early - between 5 and 6am. Most of the evenings I go to bed early too, before 11. Psychological benefits are really there, in terms of realisation of the amount of things done and it is still the beginning of the day. And if your mind is happy and content, you're gonna be physically healthier as well! Or so I believe

If you have a fan-assisted oven which goes sufficienly low temperature (at least 50C) then you can use it, it's virtually no difference from a dehydrator so far as dehydrating goes. About raw salad dressing - there are really millions of recipes if you google the words, or even look in the recipe section on this forum. They are made virtually of anything and can suit virtually any taste. One t
